Please make a Video On building an energy efficient gaming rig!

QUESTION FOR LINUS;
Please make a Video On building an energy efficient gaming rig!!!

I would like to see a build guide on youtube for building a powerful gaming rig yet still keeping it energy efficient.
as I live in an old home; with older appliances and higher energy bills; Yet I still want to play the latest games.
So Please Teach us how to build a energy efficient gaming rig; to keep our Utility Bills low; yet still get a good FPS;
and good smooth gaming perfomance!!!

How do you do it?
and Can it be done at all?

Sincerely,
Gamer From Michigan

I live in an old home; with older appliances and higher energy bills

What does that have to do with how much your power bill is? A PC will use the same power anywhere, and your provider should not make anyone pay more or less.

One way or another, the basics are:

-No SLI/Crossfire

-No overpowered PSU

-Don't go overkill on the CPU if it's just for gaming

I guess Intel is more efficient than AMD, but I'm not sure how big a difference is it.

Regardless, I'd actually like a video on this as well, as Linus has pointed out energy efficiency numerous times but it never really seemed like an important part.

Well obviously, but I think that would be a bit underpowered for most people here, wouldn't it?

Not really, for light gaming they are pretty good, I've got a friend that uses one for alot of Valve games at 1080p and he has had no issues yet

I guess that's true. Valve stuff is so well optimised that other developers should have their parents called because they basically don't even show up for lessons. So for very specific games (Valve stuff, probably some LoL, etc.) this would be a good solution.

Just Don't Buy AMD

I actaully agree with you even tho I like AMD quite a bit, I think they are sacrificing energy efficiency and heat for cheaper and better performing cards. I find it to be a fair trade as I always buy a big ass beafy power supply unit anyway :) (never cheap out on psu -Linus)

I strongly encourage you both to read my guide in my signature. You will see that power consumption is almost identical across the lower end cards with the 960 and 380 pulling numbers within the margin of error

Compare r9 390x and gtx 980, easy answer is yes it is pretty different considering 980 is the better card.

If you think all console gamers are "console peasants" then you dont belong to the pc master race

Why not buy energy efficient appliances? The money you save could probably pay for a new computer in no time.
