I guess one could say 9590 / 8350, but they are quite far behind in gaming performance.

the 8350 has similar overall performance, better in some multithreaded workloads, but worse at all workloads that use 4 threads or less

intel's cores are much more powerful than the ones in AMD CPUs

 

the 9000 series is a bit better than the 8350 but are stupid, use way too much power, create way too much heat, and are too expensive to justify the shitty performance difference

Core for core, there is no AMD equivalent. AMD's flagship loses in IPC per core to overclocked Core 2 Extremes. Any i7 above that dominates AMD.

They weren't always worse - they just took a wrong approach. They tried their own version of HT - splitting a core into 2 with shared cache (that's better than HT actually) but it bit them in the ass. Also - AMD's last FX chip came out in 2012 I believe. The Athlon is a lower-class chip that's a better offer than the Pentium G3258 but worse than an i3.

Athlon 64 X2 was better than the Pentium at the time. It was AMD's heyday.

Phenom II was also a very solid chip - as unlike Core 2 Quad it was an actual quad core rather than a taped-together Core 2 Duo.

Because AMD's FX lineup consists of small integer cores paired up into larger "cores" so as to technically be able to perform 8 threads at once. yet, they rather suffer in those threads if the instructions are complex enough...

I still think picking up a 1055T and keeping my old AM3+ mobo was a better idea than a new mobo + 4590
