Asus ROG Swift PG348Q & PG279Q | Refresh Rate Updates | 100Hz & 165Hz | IFA 2015

That's a kingpin, which is hundreds of dollars more. Of course it performs better. I'm talking about reference m80

Just for reference

Who the fuck buys reference cards lmao...

You didn't see the Gigabyte or MSI one (which I have) scoring 1-2 FPS behind the K1NGP1N?

Also why do you show me some shitty pretty oudated 4K benchmarks from Digital Storm nobody wants to game at slideshow 60hz.

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.

Also, i don't know if you noticed, but you picked a game with a very heavy nvidia bias

And the DS benchmarks aren't that outdated at all. They're pretty recent.

And i don't even know what 60hz has to do with it, but quit being an elitist asshole

FFS, maybe if people actually take the time to watch the videos instead of complaing.

I took the time to search for the timemark just to show you guys how JayzTwoCentz feels bad about AMD not to show you specifically  one benchmark..

JayzTwoCentz has always the best GPU benchmarks handsdown because he has years of overclocking experience and can push each card to their max.

Nobody cares about shitty reference stock speed vs stock speeds benchmarks... we want real overclock to the max comparasions

But now back to the displays...

Yeah GoodBytes already made a thread on it earlier :) It's the z35, just confirmed with a 200Hz refresh rate now

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/442716-acer-200hz-ultrawide-curved-non-tn-g-sync-monitor-makes-baccon-too/

In one of my other threads I made a small note on it:

Although it is still unclear on what they mean by it's overclockable to 200Hz and how well this will work. Although some people are speculating that it is a 200Hz out of the box with G sync features only, and that it doesn't mean you can just overclock it and use it at 200Hz in the conventional sense with any gpu.

Sorry 75Hz @ 3440x1440 is the best so far for freesync  (W/ the XR341CK)

Yeah I don't get it either. Linus managed to OC it to 85hz, and I assume that includes the VRR window. So that monitor should have been sold as a 85hz one. The problem is the monitor controller (scaler), not freesync.

To be honest I'm expecting the price to be the same/similar to lower refresh rate options on the market.

Like the PG348Q should come in at the same kinda price as the Acer x34, and the PG279Q similar to the upcoming XB271HU or the old XB270HU.

So yeah it'll still be pricey, but not more so than the current options I don't think. Basically I don't think we will be paying much for the extra refresh rates. (G sync is where we will get fcked on the price like always.)

But we will have to wait and see.

Looking to do a surround setup with these monitors, however not sure if i want to do 3x pg348q or 3x pg279q. What are the pros and cons with each setup.

i am currently running a surround setup with 3x pg278q. So either looking to upgrade to the IPS equivalent of what i have or the 3 21:9's since they are now gsync capable

Thanks for any help :)

I like these posts where I get the mental visualization of someone (i.e. you) just sweeping your desk of the 3 pg278q's because they are now trash in comparison to your new pg279q's. :P

You proclaim "don't need this garbage anymore". :D

These panels are AHVA, right?

If so, is it possible for these panels to reach 1ms response times in the future?

I can just imagine the perfect monitor:

(1) 3440 x 1440 resolution

(2) Curved/Flat

(3) IPS-like color

(4) 144hz and higher

(5) 1ms

(6) Free-Sync

I would gladly fork over 1000+ USD on something like that.

How long do you guys think it will be until the cheap Korean monitor market will get their hands on these panels?

Yes it is AHVA (AUO's IPS), chances are it's the same AUO IPS Panel the XB270HU and MG279Q are using, the M270DAN02 Panel.

Although it being AHVA doesn't have much to do with it reaching 1ms in the future, not that it matters anyway. There is 100% nothing wrong with it being the 4ms G2G it probably will be, or even if it's a bit higher it doesn't matter.

The G2G response time quoted is a meaningless specification in most cases now a days. And it being dropped to 1ms wouldn't make it a better monitor at all.

Also 3440x1440 @ 144Hz or higher wont be possible until DisplayPort 1.3 is integrated into GPUs and displays, because that is needed for the kind of bandwidth required to run 3440x1440 at such high refresh rates. Around 100Hz is the cap right now for that resolution with our currently integrated tech.

A freesync option would be nice though, because the current Acer one only get a 75Hz refresh rate, and it's always nice to have options.

Personally I would buy the PG348Q or the Acer x34 if they didn't have such an ugly design (In my opinion anyway), I much prefer the professional look from a monitor or most things, over the 'gaming' look

You'd need a fucking powerful computer to play that.

3x pg348q = 3 monitors * 3440*1440 pixels * 100 Hz * 8 bits/pixel = 3 * 3.963 gigabits/s = almost 12 gigabits/s

3x pg279q = 3 monitors * 2560*1440 pixels * 165 Hz * 8 bits/pixel = 3 * 4.867 gigabits/s = about 14.5 gigabits/s

3x pg348q = 3 monitors * 3440*1440 pixels * 100 Hz * 24 bits/pixel = 3 * 11.89 gigabits/s = 35.67 gigabits/s

3x pg279q = 3 monitors * 2560*1440 pixels * 165 Hz * 24 bits/pixel = 3 * 14.6 gigabits/s = 43.8 gigabits/s

to take that into perspective, a single 4k screen is about a little under 4 gigabits/s 11 gigabits/s

And even 4 Titan X's can't do 3 4k monitors all that well.

Even so, if you are going to go through GPU's like I go through hamburgers and are willing to drop $3k+ on graphics cards every year, I'd get the 3x pg279q, if only because the other one won't fit on your fucking desk

pro (of either) looks fucking awesome

con (of either) is fucking expensive, and needs a literal supercomputer to power it.

------

edit: fucked up the calculations. Forgot about there being 3 colors/pixel * 8 bits/color, not 8 bits/pixel

165 hz?

I know that it is a gaming monitor, but is refresh rates not intervals of 24 (fps of movies)?

120 hz is 5x24, and 144 hz is 6x24 (3x48 for HFR movies).

Also, I need that monitor!

But 60/24 = 2.5  :o
