I've been hesitant to make yet another large blob of text explaining my train of thought on what's going on. Considering I'm mainly a lurker of all other forums and places I visit this thread is single handedly the most I've ever been involved in an online community. It's been an interesting, but surely very bumpy ride just getting this group together. This channel's been very rusty from the start under the hood, with no real sense of direction after the first and second video uploads. When we established our Google Hangouts chat to make things easier to discuss new ideas, it eventually turned into more of a place to just complain about stuff and comment on things we SHOULD be doing instead. Our numbers grew very quickly over time, but surprisingly the numbers of active members on our main point of communication stayed the same. Many hired members never reported once after joining the group, so we quickly realized that we were at a stand still. No consistency in our video creation process, lack of communication with direction from our leader, and lack of dedication required from ALL members of the group sum up our main problems and why the core members have decided to branch off.

 

It's been frustrating not because of our inactive members, but because communication between all members became harder and harder as our numbers grew close to thirty people and Sam continued to add more, without any discussion with us as to whether we even needed more members. None of our new members (albeit a few joined very recently and didn't have time to contribute) made any contribution to the team, and with more members coming in lack of communication just turned into chaos.

 

To prevent this issue from progressing any further than it already has, we've decided to branch off into a new, MUCH smaller group. Being a smaller group allows us to work more efficiently in the sense that we're closely knit together, easy to contact, and the process of making videos will be more concrete once we set it down. Explaining everything to new members everytime will be tedious(and do note this is by far not even close to a major deciding point for as to why we don't want more members) and making sure they follow such rules will be another issue. Quality control was also a huge problem with our channel, and it was difficult to fully inform new members of what we expect of them before they kick into high gear and start uploading stuff on our servers.

 

Sam Strecker did not give enough input, if any in many of the problems we were facing. This is because due to great inactivity to the Google Hangouts chat he wasn't even around 90%+ of the time to get updates on what's going on. With that in mind, we didn't see Sam at all for a couple days and out of nowhere the first thing we personally see him do on this thread is yet again, hire another member.

To address everyone else that has not yet received access to the new Google Hangouts, please know that we do not need more members, and we did not ever need more members. The others that have joined before you but have also not gotten access will not be given access due to their inactivity. I myself regret not letting anyone else in, however we need to form a proper foundation on which to build on before we should open up the doors to more members, even if a number of you are willing to stick around and contribute to the team. Our current number sits at around roughly 10-12 people. We would've been perfectly comfortable with our numbers, and everyone else that was later invited were not under our agreement to let in, but rather Sam's alone.

Building up a fanbase may or may not be a bit more difficult without being immediately derived off of this community anymore. That's because we've been asked by Linus Media Group to avert away from using "Linus" in our channel name, so we'll have to thinking of something completely independent. With that in mind, either we'll wait until we have a solid fanbase to start hiring more people or we'll hire more people off the bat for more content. Most likely we're going for the first option.

I agree. But with all my AP classes and stuff I cant just wait around for someone to take charge and stuff so I am going to just be quiet and when someone tells me to make a video and edit it I will.
