Should i upgrade from ivy bridge?

Go to solution Solved by Deletive,

Nope. It's not worth the extra costs for the amount of extra performance you get.

I need your opinions guys, i am thinking of upgrading from my trusty i5 3570k to a skylake processor, should i? i am going to use it for gaming and some editing. thx

Do you feel as If you need to upgrade? Looking at your PC you will want more ram and a better GPU over the skylake CPU.

Wait for Skylake-E, or go to Haswell-E, the new CPUs are not a huge improvement at all, I was going to upgrade as well then decided against it. Now I have two 5820K builds, so why not right?

Not worth it - new mobo + DDR4 memory - too much money down the drain

Im guessing you aint updated your rig in a while on here, as it says 6gb ram which is ? lol

For Skylake you would need new mobo, new ram and new proc

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($249.95 @ B&H)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($158.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2666 Memory  ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $538.93
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

It wouldn't be a large performance increase and I doubt you would notice it in gaming.

for that money you could drop in a 980 and see far greater improvements (albeit only in games)

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card  ($494.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $494.99

Nah

I mean unless you want to, and you have the money

But you ain't getting too much for it.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

what about you upgrade that weak ass GTX750 to a powerful GTX970 or R9 390/390X instead? this will give you MUCH more performance in games!!

That is a completely different kind of upgrade from going skylake. More expensive too.

I'm upgrading from Ivy Bridge to Skylake, but only because I got a good deal on my old rig. I wouldn't recommend upgrading unless you have something similar lined up as the performance gains are fairly insignificant.

Nah bro keep the 3570K. I love mine and will stick with it til it's worth less than $40 on eBay. At that point I will admit it's outdated, mount my beloved P8P67 WS Revoltion on the way, and order a Zen++++ FX-64x8.

Not very much. The CPUs cost the same, the RAM costs the same, the boards cost almost the same unless you get a top end $500 X99 board.

5820K is the way to go right now apparently.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
