Xbox One may be getting Original Xbox backwards compatibility one day

In an exchange on Twitter (linked above) Phil Spencer was asked how much work be required to make Original Xbox games backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Spencer said that he has asked the backwards compatibility team that question a lot, and then went on to say that Xbox 360 backwards compatibility needs to be finished for now.

 

This implies that the backwards compatibility group is looking into Original Xbox backwards compatibility, but it'll definitely be awhile before we get it, if at all. I don't see it as a big deal though, but hey, whatever works. So ya, if you have any original Xbox games lying around, don't get rid of them, because one day you may able to play them again on the Xbox One.

I only kind of get it. I mean, honestly, most games already have newer versions out that are better. Why not just buy those.

Maybe, maybe not. If they can enable BC in a way that allows them to sell Xbox games digitally it would allow them to make money off of those games again.

They'll still make money because they're selling a console to someone who may not have bought it in the first place or may have been on the fence...

It's funny that you don't know they actually built an entire virtual Xbox 360 in software and are emulating it. They just use disc check to verify you own the game then download it to run in the virtual 360.

Lmao, an original Xbox costs around $50-60 AUD and has far better games than the Xbone (that's if people don't have their old Xbox still), how would this help sales of the Xbone when its bigger, noisier, hotter and has games frequently releasing in poor and broken states?
