whats the truth about amd and 4+2 phases ?

well i have been seeing alot of people complaining about how amd cpu's especially fx series need at-least 6+2 phases to run it on stock 

 

but i used GA970A DS3 Rev 1.1 which is 4+2 and which didn't even supported my cpu officially ran fine so what are u guys talking about ?

 

also another friend of mine is running 8300 on 4+2 phases so i ask again whats the big deal ? if it runs and without any issues there really isnt any issue

Same thing would happen if you tried to overclock an FX-8320 or FX-8350 on it. Though maybe at stock settings it would be fine. Maybe.

6+2 or higher I would go for 8+2 just incase even with no OC!

yes i did i used prime 95 and also aida 64 to test it .. also played highly intensive games and its been 2.5 board is still strong

 i think that only happened because he used 9590 it is a beast when it comes to hunger

True. I'm mainly concerned with people trying to overclock the 8-Core FX CPUs on 4+1 motherboards. Though on stock settings, I think you should be able to get by.

A 4+2 VRM Power phase design is perfectly fine for a FX-8000 or FX-6000 series Processor -- given that you don't plan to do any insane overclocking. At stock, or with a mild overclock is fine.

 

If you were to push to Processor to say...5 GHz+, then a 4+2 won't survive for long.

 

The motherboard used in the FX-9590 video is a MSi 970 Krait. It runs on a 4+1 power phase. Simply put, it is a "re-skinned" MSi 970A-G46.

Both the 970A-G43 and 970A-G46 HAD the FX-8350, and FX-8320 on the supported CPU list, but was eventually removed. The boards couldn't handle the strain because of the measly 4+1, and the tiny (or NO) heatsink used for the VRMs. People were frying the motherboard left and right.

Yeah, but that is the situation we're talking about in the first place. Overclocked 8350 on a low end motherboard. And the 970 Krait is hardly the lowest end AM3+ motherboard too, which is the scary part.

Its just a 4+2 board made for the E series...

The funny thing is though, I ran a Xeon X5450 at 3.2GHz, 1.35V on an Asus P5K-VM with only a 3+1 phase non cooled VRM, and the motherboard was fine. Pushing the voltage right up to 1.5V however killed it without a fire.

 i think it might just handle it on stock :l i mean 8350 not 9xxx series

4+2 is fine on the 6xxx and 8xxx on stock speeds . The 9xxx and overclocking it may not handle so well because you are using a lot more power going through the vrm

So yeah.... Dont put a CPU that requires around 250W into a motherboard that can supply about 150w derp

 

Otherwise a 90-140W TDP CPU will work fine
