The Verge reports that apple is working on its own phone service.

 

 

Apple could one day offer its own phone service to go along with its phones. According to Business Insider, Apple is testing an MVNO service — a phone service that would be run by Apple but would operate on wireless networks leased from established carriers, like AT&T and Sprint. There's been some indication in the past that Apple was interested in launching an MVNO service, but Business Insider now reports that Apple has actually begun trialling such a service in the US. It's reportedly working on deals to begin tests in Europe, too. The report indicates that Apple's service may piggyback on multiple carriers and switch customers between them for better service.

 

 

An Apple phone service apparently won't launch anytime soon. Even if Apple is currently testing the service and decides to move ahead with it, Business Insider reports that a full launch is likely five or more years out. The report cites telecom sources that seem to think the launch is inevitable, in which case there should be a lot more news on Apple's plans over the next few years. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

An expensive phone service will have a hard time surviving. I think apple knows this and we will get something with simmiler pricing to Fi but on contract probably.

I'd gladly pay more for having apple as a provider.  I loathe dealing with AT&T and all of their restrictions, contracts, and especially AT&T NEXT. Apple isn't quite as forward thinking as google. But they generally have their customers best interest at heart. 


 


AT&T has the best service in my hometown, but when I travel, it gets spotty. Verizon from my experience, has better coverage overall, but the speeds aren't as nice. If anyone could somehow find a way to enable seamless switching between GSM and CDMA networks, apple can.

I had a Windows Tablet PC. The iPad has zero similarities.


Also, IIRC, Apple had a "tablet" - the Newton MessagePad as early as 1993. It was likely worse than the Windows tablets. In fact, I'm fairly sure they invented the term "PDA". That's pretty innovative.

They made their own SIM card to help customers find the cheapest service more easily. This is just a natural progression I guess. people already in contracts will need to wait out the contracts, but no new contracts can be signed. I heard this from the Manager at my local Verizon store, thats why they are doing "payment" plans instead of verizon edge.

I'd gladly pay more for having apple as a provider.  I loathe dealing with AT&T and all of their restrictions, contracts, and especially AT&T NEXT. Apple isn't quite as forward thinking as google. But they generally have their customers best interest at heart. 


 


AT&T has the best service in my hometown, but when I travel, it gets spotty. Verizon from my experience, has better coverage overall, but the speeds aren't as nice. If anyone could somehow find a way to enable seamless switching between GSM and CDMA networks, apple can.

apple hate, apple hate, apple hate......it seams that all this forum manages to deal out.....why cant people get over it, they are clearly doing something right, they have a massive market share vs the limited number of devices the sell.
