What are you going to use it for? Do you have better cooling than the stock cooler? Does your motherboard support OC'ing?

Since you got a k version you should really overclock it - the performance should be amazing regardless though.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Just like Apple tells you not to jailbreak their phones. Just like google tells you to not root android. Just like Microsoft doesn't want you putting linux on your PC. Just like EA told you not to mod their game. Just like your mother told you to not get into cars with strange men.

The only reason you would buy a 'K' processor is if you wanted to overclock.

They tell you not to overclock because they dont want people coming crying to them saying they blew up their processor.

So long as you are not stupid with your overclocks you will be fine.

If this is your first time don't go crazy, you can watch guide on how to overclock CPU. Linus' has made bunch of them for you to watch.

It can be risky if you don't know what you're doing.

It's K version, even if Intel doesn't tell you to overclock. You can overclock it.

I may or may not have actually recommended getting into cars with strange men to help increase CPU performance in that post. :P

Intel doesn't know your motherboard quality or cooling capacity, they have to make it so it'll work in almost any computer at stock performance, so with a decent z series board and cpu cooler you can overclock no problem, for instance I have a NH-D14 and mine runs 4.5GHz 24/7 (stock settings are: 4 cores can turbo to 4.2, 2 can turbo to 4.3, 1 to 4.4) and it runs probably as cool as with the stock cooler or better. I don't think you will notice the difference in performance very often though, it's more just something you do because you are an enthusiast haha.

CPU:  Intel i7-4790K      Cooler:  Noctua NH-D14     GPU: ZOTAC GTX 1070 TI MINI     Motherboard:  ASUS Z97 Gryphon     RAM:  32GB G Skill Trident X

Storage: 2x 512GB Samsung 850 EVO (RAID 0) / 2TB Seagate Barracuda     PSU: 850W EVGA SuperNova G2     Case: Fractal Design Node 804

If you're a gamer upgrade the GTX 660, it's slow by today's standard...overclocking your CPU will not help you achieve better gaming performance if that's what you're looking for...an higher end modern GPU would...get a GTX 970.

GTX 660 vs GTX 970 benchmarks:

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |

By default it's turbo multipliers are like this...

1 Core - 44

2 Core - 44

3 Core - 43

4 Core - 42

Make it like this...atleast.  Obviously you can do more

1 Core - 44

2 Core - 44

3 Core - 44

4 Core - 44

I think Intel actually made the K series for overclockers.. If you are not sure yet, try watching videos/tutorials on overclocking.. Mild OC should do for extra performance..
