What are your career goals?

Akolyte

I talk allot to my friends (I'm in college) about the career choices they want.  And I think its awesome to see the huge variety of career choices people choose and how they plan on getting there.

I know since this is a technology forum that there will be allot of IT related careers listed here however there might also be people with other career choices and even if you want a career in IT, what area?

_______________________________________________________________________

I'm crazy about security, and am currently a cyber security researcher for AVG Technologies.

I've had a good friend who is a hardware and network engineer for Wells Fargo, who has told me I have amazing skills and I should look into system administration.   So, I like to manage things and that's my goal right now.  I'll probably startup a company as I'm approaching a good level of income and ease as a system admin.

I've also talked to a U.S military pen tester who we actually met because he was told to throw an SSDP flood at the server I was managing.  So, hes been helping me too.

My current career goal however is to be able to work from home as a system administrator.

My career goal is to work as a content producer. Either through my contributions in a larger studio, or as part of a smaller network. Something like the editors for Linus Media Group.

My career dream, however, is to run one of these networks myself!

I would absolutely freaking love to run my own sort of IT-Business, doing things like setting up networks, repairing computers, building custom computers, setting up computers for businesses and other people, just pretty much the whole spectrum.

That or maybe start doing stuff like linus on youtube or something and hopefully some day get big enough to pay my bills and such and have some spending money left over.

(tbh I have no clue what it will end up as because my interests are always changing so rapidly, though IT has been a pretty damn solid interest for a while now, as has youtube stuffs)

I was interested in IT, but $3300/month isn't gonna cut it. Especially if I lived in Vancouver.

Perhaps interior design, graphic design, or run some sort of business ;P

I just saw the jk part.  I was about to leave a comment I would probably regret later on.  I'll change it though, thank you for pointing it out.

Awesome!  Thats an awesome goal.

Yeah, the network admin I know tells me the most important thing is contacts, to get a kickstart.   But IT is a badass area!

Goals:

  • Don't die
  • Make money
  • Be happy

Being happy comes before all else, if your not happy whats the point of money in the first place.  OR LIFE?!?

Running a company is an awesome way to earn an income.   It would be awesome if you could find someone to get some advice from because its been priceless for me.  Or some schools have these conventions.

Work for Google, make a whole lotta money, have 3 wonderful kids, nice home, nice toys, and a stable income.

So.  Overall what your saying is what matters the most in life is happiness.  Awesome! :D

SHUT UP!  Whenever people tell me that, thats what I say.  Anyone can do anything and its true, just learn and you can do anything.  ANYTHING

Ye, I've had conversations with my dad and other people about stuff like that. I'd most likely do something with tourism, perhaps in Victoria ;P

Computer science is an awesome topic.  In fact, my old computer science and math teacher who is now gone.  I found out he used to work for NASA!!  I think I could have asked him a whole bunch of questions.

Saying, one day you can work at NASA if you want, do anything in the world.  Honestly, think about it.  THINK ABOUT IT

Aeronautical engineer that has a small company manufacturing specialised custom PC's in my spare time.

Awesome!!!

Oh yeah no doubt that it takes some contacts to get started up, for now the best I can do is just fix computers for people who need it and hope they spread the word about me. (I do have a possible IT job lined up for me after college though, which is pretty nice seeing as I'm only 16 right now lol)

Get a degree in Bio-Engineering , then finish advance French and English to get degrees as a backup plan , a Translator .

Then continue working and get another degree in Genetics .

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

Make or at least assist in the making of product that actually helps people, and is not actually just a "luxury" item. It would be my contribution to the world it may not make me rich but that would not be the point. Of course throughout High School I have thinking of a career path that would let me do this and also includes my interests. Aside from some random get rich quick inventor, I figure the next best thing for the world will probably come from computer technology, so I decided to sign up for Computer science for University in the fall. I will see where that takes me I may decide to switches paths or try to get into the engineering stream. But I know many plans change after or during first year at uni, however I do believe my initial intention will remain the same. There are a lot of ways to help people, but volunteering at a food bank just doesn't work for me. I believe we all have some kind of debt to pay to society in some way, and then we can rob it clean!

Find out what I want to do as I'm currently lost in terms of a career choice. As of now I'm working towards a pre-dental path with a biochemistry major, but I feel so hesitant to continue due to many factors (been in college for too long already).

Well, I happen to be taking quite a bit of classes in engineering and I also will be visiting Global Foundries, they made le 7nm chip which is p-cool, so you know, perhaps one day you could be using a Intel or AMD chip designed or made by me ^-^

getting a job at Intel would be one

Another would be at Google or NVIDIA,

My career goal is to becone a/an (both are apparantly correct) historian. Researching historical events, working in museums or teaching history.

With a specialized car dealership on the side.

Lately i have toyed with the idea of getting a captains licence too. Having command of a ship would be pretty nice
