They want to know if there are people interested in that specific video. If there are any, they will upload it. If they aren't any, they'll move on and make other stuff instead of wasting their time.

He has been doing this for literally years and it hasnt hindered anything. He isnt begging, he is basically reminding people to either like or dislike the video.

The like button exists for ratings... Too gauge how the video was...

Likes are VERY important on YouTube, higher liked videos appear higher up in YouTube searches

and they are critical for user feedback too

I always forget. :x

Yeah I actually very rarely like or dislike videos, I just sometimes don't feel like it

you idiot

it's a simple and easy way to gauge what the community are interested in, if the community is interested, the video will be well recieved. LMG isn't going to just pointlessly throw out videos because it would waste so much time.

now, if you don't mind, stop wasting our time and piss off.

I'm not saying that op is right but how can it be a way to gauge feedback when linus sometimes asks for multiple likes in a video we see it quite often he will say it about 2/3 things a video how does he know if him liking to see more about the office or liking to see about the new server or something when he  says to like more then once.

Because honestly what you are liking for doesn't really matter, it helps them know which videos were successful and which were not (the main source of feedback) also likes help a YouTube channel in other ways too such as search listings and appearing higher up etc

Sometimes they might use likes for those questions, if he asks for like 3 things to like for, you can assume all 3 things will be made

I like his videos so its not that I'm arguing that I'm just saying he cant honestly use it as a gauge cause even tho i like them i don't always wanna see what he's asking for likes for and sometimes i would like to see something more then the other stuff

Also are you like always here or just happened to post after me a lot lol

How is it gauging community feedback if the video Linus is referring to is already being shot and is probably being edited right now? The real feedback can be seen when the video is out. There's going to be a similar amount of likes per video, and the likes will correlate to how people feel about the content of the video where Linus is asking for likes, not whether people actually want to see another video about so and so. Gauging whether the future video will be well-received based on the likes/dislikes on the current video seems like a horrible way of going about it. Youtube likes isn't a strawpoll about random things.

I think he says that for fun, as a habit, or just to remind people to like the video. Remember how they used to say like if you like it, dislike if you dislike it?

The funny thing is, the last time he did this, the mini ITX Fury X vs 980 Ti video was already on Vessel when he asked people to like if they want to see it. :P They already 'wasted' the time for that video, it was just a funny way to up their likes.
