I saw this in two and half man except it was brainwave to voice.

Um, I can't even get to the source. Is the link working?

I'm gonna hold off any judgement until I can see how it works and what they did.

Edit: Okay, the link works for me now. Hooray! This seems really cool; I'd love for this to become commonplace.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.

When can I download my consciousness into a computer, and forever abandon my physical body, and exist as a being of pure thought?

So I view it as, you exist as an entity right now in which your brain has thought and emotion and a sense of being. If you made a copy of your brainwaves and chemical composition that makes you who you are then you still would not be in the computer. A copy of you would exist on the computer. So if your body was destroyed in the process, you would die so that a copy of you could live on forever in the computer.

I'm selfish. I don't want a copy of me to go on living forever. I want to live forever.

Well, I'm with you there. I want my consciousness transferred to the computer, which is why I said downloaded rather than copied, although I guess the term downloaded is a bit ambiguous in that regard.

But would it be really you? If you can record your consciousness into another device and you are still alive because you basically copied/pasted it you would then kill yourself?

Yes I seen that after I posted.

I know exactly how you mean it but with current tech it would be the same result.

Download would just copy your consciousness into computer while destroying your original in the process.

It is the same problem as with teleportation.

I guess we need to find the seat of consciousness then.

Edit is bugged for me... Be post then.

Information.

Lets say your consciousness is a letter in the sealed envelope. If you want to transfer it you have to take the envelope and move it to another place. (Envelope is brain). How can you transfer information from the letter in computer? You will simply make a copy of the original. Now you have that information on two places because you can't simply physically put the letter into the hard drive. You MUST make a copy.

And we have two types of copies.

You either save original and simply make copy with the same information as original or you "transfer" it by making copy of original and destroying original in the process.

.....remove the brain from the body and put it in a jar (or other container capable of keeping the brain alive) and connect the brain to the computer.

All you would really need then is a programming language to interface with the brain, and the ability to make connections to the sensory nerves of the brain.

Yes. But why would you do that?

It won't have any benefits for you.

The only reason I can see why I would like to have my consciousness in PC is to be able to think faster and have better memory.

Putting your brain into jar and connecting it to PC would yield no benefits as your brain would be bottleneck for the computer. You would be better off only to put it into super body instead of a jar.

The point would be to leave "reality" behind and live in a world of pure fantasy. At least that's what I would want.

You can do that now. Drugs :D

On topic:

It is cool but just wait and see how dangerous this will become once the tech will become wireless and someone will be connected at you and you won't even know :D

What movie is this from, it was from last year..or was it this year?  Is it even out yet?

I know it's in Lawnmower Man from the 90's. Not big on modern movies.
