ON MY WAY TO BUY A CPU COOLER NEED YOUR OPINION

Go to solution Solved by FairladyZ,

thanks for the quick reply #djdwosk97

should i replace the evo fan with a noctua or just use one of the corsair AF series 120mm i got a spare one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181023

AF and SP fans sound like jet engines...don't use them...Noctua NF-F12 is super quiet and moves a ton of air. look into those. They're expensive though..

And now my suggestion for the cooler..

Keep the Hyper 212 Evo until you decide to get into water cooling. Hyper 212 is a great cooler, and 4790k will perform just fine with it.

Hey guys

just really quick before i make a buying decision

i currently have an hyper 212 and im upgrading my cpu to the i7 4790k

i care about temps are reg clock speeds and quiet " on tyhe future will OC a bit"

should i keep my evo a trow a noctua fan or a corsair af series

should i get a noctua cooler

or water cool

need you opinion

Keep your Evo for now. If you find you need something with more cooling potential then buy an NH-D14/NH-D15 or an AIO.

#lukerox2002 what would you recommend

Be sure to actually tag people or quote them.

@djdwosk97 @lukerox2002

I would personally say stick with your 212 EVO and wait until you can upgrade to an AIO.

I just don't think new fans on your 212 EVO will do much goods

Not quoting the OP is fine seeing as he should be following his thread / checking back anyway.

I meant OP should have tagged/quoted you and lukerox2002 :P Otherwise you wouldn't possibly give more advice.

In contrast to many others here i think that liquid cooling is not necessarily the best answer to silence. Nevertheless, i would also suggest to keep the Evo for now. If the temps are bad, get something bigger, if the noise is bad, swap the fan. But for now, keep the Evo.

who cares...

i use the NoFan CR-95C

it's a completely passive

70-75 C is the highest temps I see when gaming, with an i7 like the 4790k i don't think i should get much hotter

the only problem i've had is that's it's a major pain working with it's immense size

If you want something simple then AIO liquid cooling is easier for stock temps and sound

Well, we could be very literal and say passive cooling, but I don't think that is a viable option.

Uh, yeah it will be hotter. Quite a bit probably. You have a low power i5.

Keep the one you have for now, and if you really want to push the temps without risk of damaging your CPU, get an AIO or do a custom loop, although an AIO will be more than enough (we're talking 5GHz on a 2600K enough).

My opinion? Switch off Caps Lock when writing the thread title.

On a more ontopic note: The 212 Evo is quite a highly regarded cooler, so you should be fine with it. Unless, of course, you actually want a cooler that looks good, in which case you'll probably want to throw the Evo out of a window.
