Could use risers, like the custom mining machines(In fact, if somebody did this they could technically use all of the PCI-e slots, even the x1's. Imagine 7+ Titan Z's folding away lol).

Hah, I read that as 113k PPD for a second, and I was like wha, 2 Titan X < GTX 970 and then I read "between 850k and 100k" then I was like oh.

Unfortunately, that's probably not possible. For starters, just because you have 7 PCIe Slots doesn't mean you can actually use them all. As a general rule, mobos don't have the electrical wires to support all PCI slots being used at once. So there's that.

 

Second, F@H changed the way it's calculations are done, and now the GPU is only used as hardware acceleration for the CPU. In other words, it is constantly having to communicate big chunks of data to the CPU, and thus requiring bandwidth higher than 1x. Now, if I recall correctly, I read once somewhere (so take this with a huge spoon of salt) that you needed PCIe 3.0 x4 for each GPU, on high-end models. Or was it PCIe 2.0 x8 or PCIe x4. Whatever, the point stands; for dual GPU cards, that number doubles, and you pretty much it across all slots. Which, again, is not often allowed by the wires, if at all.

 

And let's not forget the CPU: it only goes up to 40 PCIe lanes on the strongest models. So... good luck with 7 titan Zs.

Titan Z is a dual GPU card. I know you're probably referring to it as a "graphics card," but just thought I'd point that out - because individually, the GPUs are worse than a Titan Black because they're clocked lower. That being said, I use an overvolted and overclocked 660 Ti for 24/7 folding.

Then a dual GPU card is an idea. But I still would suggest something like a single GTX 980ti.

 

Titan Z has more raw horse power, but the only reason to get the earlier Titan cards were the double precision that they had (which Titan X does not have). Hence is why I suggest the 980ti instead. It might not perform as good as a Titan X, but it's close. And the money you save is well worth it.
