GTX 980ti $1000+ In AU - "Australia tax" how much does it cost in your region?

TrigrH

I understand our dollar is low atm but that has nothing to do with it, for some reason it costs $150 more than US. I can understand maybe $50 more (so $900) but $999+ is a joke for a reference card.

Titans are also listed.

Just buy it from Canada way cheaper.

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

Why do people keep complaining about this? I mean I understand if it's a 50% price increase or something but that's not even that bad. It's because AUS has a 20% VAT or something like that and the price is higher. People in AUS also make more money than people in the US so it evens out.

According to review sites its gonna be 750 euro's here.

Probably a combination of the crappy conversionrate (1 euro = 1.09 USD) and 21% tax.

Having 21% tax sucks but we're accustomed to include tax in store prices so at least we know how mich we actually have to pay. Secondly our public services are much better than the US (when I went to California i was shocked by how bad the roads are).

Desktop: Intel i9-10850K (R9 3900X died 😢 )| MSI Z490 Tomahawk | RTX 2080 (borrowed from work) - MSI GTX 1080 | 64GB 3600MHz CL16 memory | Corsair H100i (NF-F12 fans) | Samsung 970 EVO 512GB | Intel 665p 2TB | Samsung 830 256GB| 3TB HDD | Corsair 450D | Corsair RM550x | MG279Q

UK has 20% VAT, Australia has 10% GST.

US cost of living is significantly lower, including median house price compared to Australia.

Our wages are higher before tax, but we also pay significantly more tax as a percentage... equals much lower disposable income.. so no it doesn't work out.

In a way you are correct and not correct. The reason for the dramatic price difference is the tax, but I'm a little curious about it.

Although Americans only earn around 85% of the average Australian, there is no such 20% tax. The tax we have on all products is a 10% GST (goods and service tax). We do not have any taxes on importing electronics (I do not believe through my research, although if I am wrong please correct me). Therefore if it were a straight 1-1 conversion plus Australian tax, we would be looking at around 850 after conversion rates + 85 for tax, and coming in at a grand total of $935. Whoah that's almost what the retailers are selling it for. The retailers like PCcasegear still need to feed their staff, so they are adding around $100 which I think is in all honesty fine.

What I do find curious though is that I did these calculations by the RRP of the product in the US. This means that retailers will be buying the cards for less than this, otherwise they could never make any money. I do know for a fact that these mark-ups are not very much and the profit computer companies make is negligible. But I would be curious to know if as Aussies, we end up buying out electronics after tax or if not, then why the fuck does it cost so much for us.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

Conversion rates from Google and 10% import tax gives around $932.824 leaving $66.176. There's shipping in there and PCCG has to earn something. I hate Australian pricing but if you look up why its so high it make sense.

3700x, Asus B450i, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB, Gigabyte GTX 970 ITXDan A4-SFX, SX600-G, 120mm AIO.

I was expecting it to be between $1000 and $1200, let's see if it stays there or drops over the next few months as supply picks up and demand drops.

I really doubt that PCCG has to buy it at the US retail price, and $999 AUD is before shipping and payment fees.
