@KAKA

It depends on what games you want to play and what settings you want to play them at.

A single GTX 970 or R9 290X might give you those kinds of framerates at medium settings, but if you want to play at high-max settings then you'll want to have 2x970's or 2x290X's/295x2more price efficient before rebate

No budget?

Titan X SLI :P

But a more normal suggestion would be 970 SLI or 980 SLI if you are willing to spend that.

A single GTX 970 should be fine at medium settings, and if you decide you want to crank up the settings then you can always buy a second one later on.

I basically play fps and racing titles.everybody wants to play at max settings,and i also want to :P .......though if i had a 1440p monitor :(  i would not do max settings in every game but mixture of medium and max settings....

but anyway thanks a lot for the advise.... :)  :)

It's overkill for 1080p 60fps, but for 144Hz, it's perfect.

Not so much overkill, more so that you're spending $200 more per card for a relatively small amount of performance.

I mean if you're spending $500-$700 then, imo, you should go for the 295x2 over the single GTX 980.

Keep in mind that you're not talking of 1080p at 60Hz but rather 144Hz, which requires quite a bit more processing power. A GTX 980 or Titan X won't suffer from fps drops (minimum frame rates), which grants a far smoother experience overall.

You can indeed go the multi-GPU route, and you will get quite better performance but you do need to keep in mind of all the inherent flaws multi-GPU setups have.

Honestly, I'd hold on a little longer and look into the GTX 980 Ti.

True, but that doesn't take any of the performance the card has. In any case, I still say it would be better to wait for GTX 980 Ti numbers and if the card isn't worth it then, the GTX 980 will drop in price anyway :)

Single 980. As long as you turn down one or two things, it'll be fine.

Yeah. But Titan X would be a huge waste. It plays 4k at 60fps lol.
