Cheapest 4k GPU

bobhays

he said it was not necessary not that it was not possible

well if you want 4k and missing the Displayport V1.2 or HDMI2.0, then it´s a better solution than 30hz, 30hz is simply not something that is comfortable, i know that it is okay for some people, but it feels so laggy..

but saw something about running 4K60hz on a HDMI 1.4 cable with limited colors.. not so you would notice it.

Yea the nvidia gpu's can compress the color so you can run 4k60 off of hdmi 1.4 but with less color info. It's a good option but with displayport i can get 4k60hz via dual screen from a gtx650. I guess if the TV doesn't support the dual screen mode that's a good alternative. Thanks for reminding me.

it's just for playing videos and web browsing not gaming

Intel HD 4600? Or buy a cheap 7XXX / 750ti?

Do you have a source for that? I'm also trying to find what res hd4400 supports.

http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/guides/performance-xeon-e3-1200-hd-graphics-p4000-guide.pdf

Max Resolution DisplayPort*/HDMI- 3840x2160@ 60Hz, 4096x2304@24Hz, VGA

I don't think it supports HDMI 2.0 though, to get 4K @ 60Hz you'll need DisplayPort.

And yes, HD 4400 also supports 4K @ 60Hz, I've tried it personally with my HP EliteBook 840 and it's i5-4300U. Runs perfectly fine for desktop use, but again, only through DisplayPort will you get that 60Hz.

afaik the cheapest readily availalbe GPU right now with HDMI 2.0 is the GTX 960.

skimmed through this a bit. but if op only intends to do Web browsing 4k isn't the way to go..no website scales at 4k and most just float in the middle of the screen. yes you can use zoom buuut it normally makes text go funny and out of place.

I experience 4k browsing everyday and the experience is far from perfect.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

are you sure, i own a NEW 2715Q Dell, running SST 4K60hz, but i am quite sure that it does support MST, so you could run MST on that with 2xDisplayport.. and as said i would call that a "NEW" 4K monitor with AN 60HZ IPS display.

MST doesn't mean using dual DisplayPort cables. It means sending the signal over a single cable but pretending it is two smalller monitors chained together instead of a bigger one.

The P2715Q supports MST not as a workaround for 4K 60Hz, but for its actual intended use (Daisy-chaining) which is why there is a DisplayPort Out port on your monitor.

MST is only supported in DisplayPort 1.2 and above. DisplayPort 1.1 will still be limited to 30Hz.

From what I can tell it's for HTPC/movies use mostly.

Does your tv support hdmi 2.0. If you dont mind having sound off something else than hdmi you go for a display port adaptor to a hdmi 2.0 maybe. I am not sure though. Someone correct me on that. If that works, it would be possible to simply use the integrated graphics 4600 then

Cpu:i5-4690k Gpu:r9 280x with some other things
