GTA5 Port Problems & Praises

Nexxus

I know alot of us are waiting for news on how this game runs. I wanna make a thread (that I will update) where people can talk about there experiences with the game, and we can catalog issues for those who are waiting im mostly looking to hear anything that might be looked negatively upon but if you have anything positive to share about the port and how it runs/pc specific features please share those too.

Also please mention in your report (if its good or bad)

CPU
Ram
Video card
OS

Approx FPS (if applicable)

At the very least so we can get an idea of how this thing runs...

Gonna get the ball rolling since I already have an issue that popped up on steam.

EDIT - If I left your quote out odds are I didnt know how to categorize it, or your issue doesn't seem super wide spread right now.

Problems

  • I am having problems installing or playing GTAV PC, and my Windows username includes characters that are not in the table at the bottom of this page. Issues include an error message saying “The Rockstar update service is unavailable (code 1)”, or the game hanging while trying to download the update. How can I fix this?

Fix: you need to create a new Administrator User Account for your Windows system that only includes letters A to Z, a to z or numbers 0-9 from the basic roman alphabet. (currently working on a fix)

  • AMD CPU owners seem to be struggling to get good FPS

I cant confirm or deny this but AMD users seem to be the ones bring up FPS issues more then Intel.

  • My pause screen is laggy as hell, sometimes i can't even move on it.

I'm personally getting this too no known fix right now

Positive Statements

  • "It runs over 60 if you disable vsync, i'm currently playing the first story mission, which is inside. So far so good,"

i5-4670k @ 4.4 GHz, Sapphire R9 290x Tri-X 4GB OC, 8 GB RAM, Windows 8.1 64bit

  • "Runs sweet. Over 60frames on 1440p everything on very high/ultra."

i7 5930K - 4.2ghz, 32GB Cosair Vengeance, GTX 980 SLI - Pallit Jetstream

  • "The game runs insanely well, I've cranked up all settings except AA at 1440p and I get 70+ FPS with an average of around 85"

GTX 980 x2

  • "I'm averaging 110fps on 1080p, my gpu is overclocked to 1500mhz"

i5 4590, Msi GTX970,  8GB HyperX

  • "Ultrawide...3440 by 1440, 6.5GB of vram used. 110fps"

  • "So I picked it up, havent seen it go under 60fps yet running a single 680 seems to mostly be running 75-99fps on the default settings.. rebooting to try SLI"

Intel Core i7 4770k,  Corsair Vengeance 1333 16gb,  SLI EVGA 680 GTX Signature+, Win 8.1 64bit Loaded on SSD

  • "Seems to scale well in SLI in the beginning cinimatic where micheal is at his docs I was getting 75, on 2 cards I was getting 144-150"

Intel Core i7 4770k,  Corsair Vengeance 1333 16gb,  SLI EVGA 680 GTX Signature+, Win 8.1 64bit Loaded on SSD

  • "I'm having zero problems , just windows 10 problems so I changed over to my win 8.1 and now it's playing 60fps no prob maxed settings at 1080p "

4690k @4.6ghz , r9 290x @1100mhz core , 1400mhz mem , 120gb main os ssd . 750gb mass storage(game on here)Maxed settings 1080p on a 27" benq 120hz monitor I limited it to 60fps with vsync , the newest beta driver for AMD catalyst (15.4?) I overclocked gpu with afterburner

  • "Game looks and runs great. The only problem I have is that to max out the game you need a card with 4GB of vram and I only have 2GB :/ (Seems it's time to upgrade)"

Asus GTX670 DCUII  : i5 3570k 4,4Ghz RAM: Corsair Vengance 8GB 1600Mhz

  • "My impressions so far - game is well optimised. The amount of resources consumed is appropriate for the graphical fidelity received. My rig is i5-4430, 8GB, MSI GTX 970 Gaming(runs at stock clocks) - with everything on very high, tesselation on high, 2x AA (TXAA enabled), as well as all the advanced graphical options maxed - FPS hovers around 60, 45 was the lowest, 80 was the highest. Windows 7 OS, game is installed onto 7200 RPM HDD, latest drivers. With VSync on - massive, ridiculous amounts of input latency. I know VSync sometimes causes input lag, but I have never seen a game where it is that bad. Literally unplayable with VSync on.

  • Overall - great port, minor complaints, but nothing critical. My impressions are, however, based on single player only, I have not touched multiplayer yet."

 i5-4430, 8GB, MSI GTX 970 Gaming

  • Played for around 2 hours last night, as I'm at work now, and it played beautifully! Everything at max settings in 1080p at 60fps with Vsync on. Not even the slightest bit of lag or stuttering! VERY Impressed!!!

Core i5 4690K O/C to 4.5ghz, EVGA GTX 970, 16 GB RAM

  • Game has been running very well so far. 1080P, High settings with normal textures and FXAA. Framerate is in the 50's most of the time. My specs are almost identical to the recommended specs:

i5-4670, 8GB RAM, GTX660.

  • "No problems here."

i5-2500, 16GB DDR3-1333 CL7, 2x MSI GTX770 4GB in SLI, Win7 SP1

  • "Runs on normal setting on 1920x1080 60fps sometimes drop below 60 but never under 50"

I5 4970k 4,6 ghz oc, 8gb ram, gtx 650 1gb vram

Negitive Statements

"Mine doesn't run as good as it should. Settings are on default and the FPS drops below 40"

I7 4770k oc 4.5, 18 gb ram, 290x crossfire 4gb, windows 8.1 64 bit

  • "My only problems so far with the game are graphcial rendering issues (where the game doesnt render the road/building/etc) to where I have to stop and wait so I can see where I am going and it seems like it lags behind actions?? Example of that is the first story mission as Franklin when you are repo'ing the 2 cars. The NPC will stand there at the cars for a bit (after I get into one) and then go on with his lines and get in his car. Another example is getting into a car I will press F (or y on my gamepad) and then it will take me a bit to actually enter the car, I'll just stand next to it for a few seconds"

780TI i5 2500k, CPU at base clock, 8GB Ram

  • "Only issue ive encounter is when tabbing out my comps ability to process what im typing is dreadful lol"

Intel Core i7 4770k,  Corsair Vengeance 1333 16gb,  SLI EVGA 680 GTX Signature+, Win 8.1 64bit Loaded on SSD

  • "Game seems to do weird ass shit in the benchmark. Thankfully isn't present in game."

Intel Core i7 4770k,  Corsair Vengeance 1333 16gb,  SLI EVGA 680 GTX Signature+, Win 8.1 64bit Loaded on SSD

  • "I've noticed a few minor anomalies that I cant figure out why they are happening, game seems to occasionally pause itself or skip entire cinematic "

Intel Core i7 4770k,  Corsair Vengeance 1333 16gb,  SLI EVGA 680 GTX Signature+, Win 8.1 64bit Loaded on SSD

  • "Well ive lowered a lot of the settings, everything at high settings with draw distance, population density and population variety all half was down, and at 1440p with 290x crossfire I get 79 fps with drops to 40 fps which sucks. Ive got a free sync monitor so at 40 fps its unplayable."

  • this game is just not happening for me, my cpu is a piece of shit, but i figured the gpu would pick up the slack, guess i was wrong. im getting fps in the 40s with frame drops at 1080 max, and still in the 40s with frame drops at 900p lowest settings"

AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad-Core 3.7GHz w Cooler Master Gemini s524, Sapphire R9 290x Tri-X 8gb Ram

  • I am getting some frame drops and stuck at 59 frames most of the time and I cannot use more then 2 GB of my 3 GB a sapphire Dual-X R9 280 3GB card. It might be my Intel® Core™ i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz bottle necking though I don't know for sure.

Max Payne 3 and a few other games were ported to PC by the same people that are doing GTA V... They may have been the ones to port GTA IV too.

apparently the people handling this port are a mix of people that ported MP3 (a good port) GTA4 (a port that still doesn't work as well as the consoles) and "pc specialists"

It's in fact not even a port the PC version was built side by side with the console version.

They even said that the artists made all assets from the start at high resolutions and then just downscaled them for ps3/xbox360.

I will get a lot of stick for this but lets put it this way...there is evidance that pc is the leading platform for gta, meaning it was started on pc first..there is also evidance that it is not a port.

Specs are in sig, im going to TRY I didn't preorder it.. but I "acquired" the game files. My goal is if its good im gonna buy it throw said files in steams folder and varify the game cache so I can play it ASAP since its been an 11 hour download for me.

If that will work I dunno..but ya thats what im gonna attempt.
