Here though? Nah, it's somewhat safe but I at least keep it in my vehicle. Sometimes pulling a knife is enough to get people to stop what they're doing.

Here in the netherlands there's pretty much always a witness around and there's a REDICULOUSLY SMALL chance to be attacked or anything, YES, *when* it happens it's great to have the knife to atleast scare people off, but like said above, screaming or making loud noises to get attention is usually enough here.

Yeah I wish it were the same here but it's not. It all depends on where you live. Plus, knives can become very handy if you need to cut something quickly.

There you say it, having, lets say, a Gut knife in your car to cut you belt in a crash can save your life, and car crashes can ALWAYS happen.

Exactly. Here, I'd get away with shouting at someone in the street for doing something wrong. Plus, there is a legal limit on how large a knife you can carry on your person here. A knife like the one Linus used for his unboxings is fine though.

Yeah, but guess what is right next to me? Completely different culture here than in the Netherlands.

Here, the blade of your knife can not be longer than the width of your palm, or something like that.

Yup, I had to use it not too long ago because I was helping someone move furniture and the genius knotted the rope wrong and couldn't be un-done, one swipe and we were good to go.

Yep, If i were you I'd have a knife on me at all times, I totally agree.

I have big bloody hands. That blade is long enough to do some serious damage.

It's all about the culture. America think it's perfectly fine to be allowed to buy rifles and whatnot, though here the majority of people, from what I've spoken to, don't see the point. It's also much harder to get your hands on a gun or large knife here, unless it's a kitchen knife, and even then, you have to be 18+ to buy them.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

I don't think there's a point to having fast gaming computers because it's unnecessary....

Let's invoke some thoughts, shall we? :D

But it's not really needed to have a firearm in the UK. :D

They're hard to come by and the process of getting a licence is long and tedious. So, not that many people have them, unless you're a farmer or have one for shooting sports. :P

And still, anyone can literally stab someone to death with a pencil, so that blade can do some serious damage, but it is really THAT different from something people can carry around 24/7? Like, even a VERY sharp wooden stick can be just as lethal as a knife.

It's "not really needed" to have a firearm in the US but we have a lot of enthusiasts and sport shooters because it's not as long and tedious as a process.

Scissors. Let's bring up scissors.

We have this which fucks you up.

And this for lopping heads off and is completely legal.

I know. Though, I don't see anything wrong with carrying a small knife, heck I used to do it myself, especially when I travelled to places like Newcastle and Middlesbrough. Though, I've stopped carrying one since.

Personally I've never carried a knife and I never would. Basically because if i were in a situation where I'd need it to defend myself I'd potentially be delivering a lethal object into the hands of someone already intent on doing me harm.

But...your milage may vary...soooo...here's some useful info. from the most legitimate source on personal safety and self-defense this side of Sgt. Rory Miller (author of Meditations on Violence: A Comparison of Martial Arts Training and Real World Violence)...

If you're carrying knives then, truly, this is information you need.... :0/

Does it hurt you? No. Does it hurt anyone around you? No. Is it there for you in case you need it? Yes.

Well by that logic carrying a gun is perfectly fine as well.

Where do you live if you need to pull a knife on someone?  Have you actually ever been in that situation? It's so far from what I come from.

See what I find great is I've been trained how to handle a knife the military way. I know how to determine a situation, and I know how to get out of one without a knife. But if it comes to serious blows, I'm going to stop them with as little bloodshed as I can.

I am very well aware of the thin line you walk when you pull a knife, that's why I wouldn't unless absolutely necessary.

Well yeah, I'm fine with people carrying a gun.. And if you scroll up, I live on the border of one of the loveliest countries on the planet. No I have not personally been in a situation where I need my knife, but I'm well aware of the risks that are out here.
