Have to admit, that I have reached an age now where im completely rooting for you dad in this arguement.

I love SSDs, and recommend them to basically everybody no matter what they are going to use their machine for, but his reaction is priceless

He is right....we are spending a stupid amount only so we won't have to wait a little while for it to boot.

SSD's are kind of the new RAM when it comes to speeding up all processes? :0/

Personally I think they're great. Expensive but great.

They won't help your games run any faster but if you spend a lot of time multitasking then it might work out cost-effective.

When you get an SSD you suddenly realise you've lost all of those moments you had to stop and reflect.; you find your computer's suddenly rushing you headlong into what you wanted it to do. :0/

Show him the price of what it was back then vs now and play lots and lots of YT videos showing the comparison between SSD and HDD. The other is power consumption, parents like power consumption, show them the electric bill on what you have to pay when using a HDD and SSD. Make some bs graph on it add them Energy star, or whatever energy logo you can get. lol xD

Except that the power consumption difference between the average HDD and the average SSD is about 8-9 watts. That not going to affect the monthly electric bill.

If "make some bs graph" means lying to your dad... well good luck with that.

Liars should be punished. I've punished my teenage son for lying to me about stupid shit. @Arty The lie is worse than what the lie is meant to cover up. There goes your future credibility and trustworthiness. I don't recommend doing it.

True though, lying isn't the way. Now if Arty wants a SSD then the best way is to find some job and buy it himself.
