I for one think that Apple should scrap the iPod touch, continue to make the iPod nano and shuffle,

 

and most importantly revive the iPod classic as a DAP with SSD up to 1TB with thunderbolt 2.0 and it will also act as an USB DAC

 

I can only dream.

This. I've always seen the touch since the iPhone 4 as kind of useless, and never got the point of them.

 

The Nano on the other hand is brilliant, but it really needs more than a 16gb limit, i'd kill for a 128gb nano, but the price on such would make me run in the other direction

 

I'd love to see them bring back the classic with solid state storage, that would be awesome, I would buy one, or make my own like this guy. But unlikely. But who knows what this years iPhone event holds since that's when they usually show off new iPods.

I actually put a 32gb SSD in my iPod Classic, it worked out great.

 

but I'm talking a DAP, like one with SSD and a powerful DAC/AMP built in. Like an Apple version of the Fiio X5

I think it hurt the iPod touch line when Apple made an update to the 5th gen WITHOUT a back camera and with the same specs as the 5th gen (to my knowledge). It just didn't make sense...

It had 8gbs of storage instead of the 16gbs min of the other ipod touches. It is also only avalible in grey.

 

 

Iv'e been tempted to buy a ipod touch as I don't have any other apple device in the house and it would be useful for apple things like facetime with people that refuse to get skype.

I don't know, but either way the touch isn't selling as well as it used to. I saw a little kid (probably 8 or 9) with a smartphone the other day. It wasn't his mother's, she had her own as well. Smartphones are becoming more popular, iPod touch is becoming less popular. iPod sales in general are declining.

 

 

I can see why sales of the regular Ipods declining, but suppose you wanted the same functionality of an Iphone, but you can't afford a contract (right now, a contract free iphone 6 is about 700$). I dunno, Just doesn't make sense to me.

One main cause for this is that many people are on their second or higher smartphone, and they give their old one to their kid. That old phone will be just like an ipod, but for free in those cases. Some parents do buy flagships for their children, but in general that isn't the case.

So The Iphone 6 has been out for a while now, and usually the release of a new Iphone is alongside a release of a new Ipod touch. The Ipod touch 5th gen is still being produced, but the chipset it has will mean It'll be left out in he next ios update. So what do you guys think? Is apple just biding their time, or Is the Ipod touch line being scrapped.

I still own a ipod touch 4,with smartphones increasing in popularity ipods have lost their status.

iPod 4G? Pfft, I still have the 2nd generation, running iOS 4.2.1!

The iPod touch was my first mobile device, it's a real shame to see it go like this. Children are more interested on phones and iPads now.

Nope. The iPod Touch 5G has the same CPU as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. If one of those devices won't get iOS 9, then nothing else will. Also, the iPod 2G shipped with iOS 2 (newer 8GB models like mine came with 3) and only got to iOS 4. And the iPhone 4 shipped with iOS 4, last release was 7.1.2. iPhone 3GS shipped with 3 (newer 8GB models with 4) and ended up on 6.1.6. In fact, the original 45 nm iPad 2 was the only device to get 4 new major releases.

Well, considering I don't really see the point in what is essentially a small and underpowered tablet, I wouldn't be surprised if they were thinking about letting it go...

I think this is a good point. The role of the iPod Touch has been completely superseded by the iPad

I have the most recent iPod Nano which has been in production since 2013. No updates as of yet as far as I can tell. I imagine that Apple is going to kill the brand soon. I like having an iPod since it's sound quality is much, much better than my sh*tty phone's sound quality, but I could ditch it in a second if I got a smartphone.

Right, but the Ipod touch 5th gen has the apple A5 chip, the same as the 4s, which will be unsupported come iOS 9 release day

I still use an iPod nano (6th gen) as it's got a few things I rather like, however I think what would be a far better move would be to make iPod nanos, and then just bring itunes to android, because some people like me have their entire music collection on itunes, yet use an android phone, so having an official itunes app on android would make things a lot easier for me, besides having to use the sony desktop app to move my music to my phone, and have no control over the selected music in my playlists.

Bearing in mind the persistent rumours of a lower cost 4 inch iPhone being released, it would make sense that any iPod touch updated be launched alongside that. I can't see there really being any market for a premium iPod touch with larger screen. So it would seem odd to launch one. If they had announced another 4 inch iPod touch alongside the iPhone 6, I think those crying out for a smaller iPhone may have felt slightly neglected.

I don't think people want a phone that isn't a phone....that's what tablets are for. I hated the days when I had to carry a phone and ipod, and I think most people will agree with me.

Yea, now it doesn't make sense, but some kids get iPods just for music, they don't want/need a phone yet. But yea its become like a niche market now

its legit just whatever gen was previous iphone subtract the cellular service.
