China cracks down on explicit anime

Ok... This confused me a little...

Streaming sites now require publication licences to be able to add other countries' TV series and movies, which will be judged by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) on an individual basis. Unregistered clips must also be removed.

The official news agency Xinhua has noted that local TV stations rarely screen imported series because they are supposed to favour domestic productions.

'Borderline-pornographic'

Three specific examples of indecent anime cartoons are mentioned in a statement posted to the Ministry of Culture's website:

High School of the Dead

High School of the Dead was accused of being too sexually suggestive

Blood-C, a series about a sword-wielding teenage girl who fights monsters in her town. It is accused of containing a "particularly bloody" beheading scene that would cause "extreme discomfort"

Terror in Resonance, a series involving two teenagers who carry out a terrorist attack with a nuclear weapon. Officials said this glorified violence and criminal activities

High School of the Dead, a show about a group of students struggling to survive in a world overtaken by zombies. The programme, which was given a certificate 15 when released in the UK, is accused of being borderline-pornographic

Tl;dr: China is cracking down on ecchi, hentai and violent anime

 

I really don't understand why they're just singling out anime though, I feel like there is some other reason they're doing this, otherwise there would be a plethora of things that they would also be banning.

Well, politics may be involved. Japan and China are in a state of great tension lately over some territorial disputes.

 

But that said, yes, there is a plethora of things China bans. They have what amounts to their own internet. They need their own localized versions of video games with no representations of human bones or pandas. Pornography has been entirely illegal, as far as I know, for a long time in China.

Yeah, terror in renaissance.

High school of  the dead if you like boobs. It's basically porn. However, the plot is good.

I don't know about the other ones.

blood-c is mature in the gore/non-sexual themes.

 

I do like anime with some good "plot"

High School of the Dead was really good to watch, really deep story line. Terror in Resonance has been on my watch list for about 2 months now, haven't watched it yet. You can check out my anime list if you need something new to watch, might have something in there that will interest you.

I get the whole banning porn, but why goriness and pandas? That just strikes me as excessive.
