The HD 5450 is available mostly as a single slot card that can run entirely off the PCI-E slot for power so it doesn't take up more space in my server than it needs to.  But more importantly, the HD 5450 has a lot of passively cooled versions, which is one thing I wanted, and it has built in HDMI which is good because my server is near a TV, so it's just on an input there if it needs servicing.  It's also 'new enough' that AMD does support it with drivers in Windows 10. :P  ...And I guess it could do decent at Portal if it had to?

Well, I was just going off of pricing, most shitty GPUs can be found on eBay for less than £10, and some are so low power that you could probably have them idle without a heatsink xD

If it helps she gets less masochistic in Rise of the Tomb Raider.  She's grown up a bit by then and during the events of the game.  

 

Idk what GPUs where in my first two laptops but my most recent laptop has a 1GB GTX 285M.  I then went from that a GTX 970 when I got my first/main desktop last January.  Currently I'm using the GTX 1070 I got at the end of June.  

 

I'm not how much of an improvement going from a 285M to a 970 is but I assume it's a lot.  lol

 

More so between the 285M and 1070.  ?

 

You could get a 1080 ti once that happens.   I bet that would be enough of a showing improvement for you.  ?

You could just accept a lower multiplier.  lol

 

From the sound of things I feel you'd be very happy with a 1080 or 1080 ti if you really want an extreme jump in performance.  

 

But waiting is ok too I suppose.  If your 960 is still good enough for your needs.

For the time being, the 960 is fine. It was only the hiccup in the most unoptimized area of Skyrim I initially commented on, which snowballed into this conversation. 

 

Like I mentioned earlier, I pretty much run my tech into the ground before replacing. Being in a household that had frequent swings to both sides of the wealth spectrum has some role in that. I had a crt 480i TV up until 2 years ago before getting my 768P TV. :P

My vocabulary is being twisted lately. But yeah, social media is very depressing and has become a toxic cesspool of negativity. Awhile ago, I deactivated my Facebook and Instagram. I'm keeping Twitter because I have more control on that one imo. I think I'm going to see my therapist again because Christmas is very depressing.

I got rid of all my social media accounts. No time for that if it there's no positive return. I might get into Twitter but only if I find it very necessary.
