Titan-X now available. Does new GPU line = Price drops on current?

SocomSuade

I think, Titan X is just part of the Titan line, which is separate and like in the past, never affects the more mainstream line

I'm new at the PC game so I thought maybe some of you guys and gals might know the history and track records of the GPU makers.

I see the new Titan-X is available and hear about AMD 300 cards coming soon.

Does this mean the current cards will see a decrease in price? Specifically for me the gTx 970 or 980.

Not sure about the history of these situations and was hoping you all did.

Does the new cards mean price drops on the old?

If so, when do you anticipate that to happen?

The Titan X releasing will have no impact on 970 pricing, the 300 series launch is likely to effect the 980 pricing based on their performance.

Any guess on how much of a drop? I'm guessing NOT in the 970 territory, if so they'd have to drop 970 prices as well Id guess.

Sad to see the replies lol. Was hoping to get a better card in the near future.

NVIDIA dropping prices on the current line? NEVER!

The 970 is already pretty cheap for the performance it gives, and it's unlikely AMD will have anything to exert downward pressure on its price since we're likely to get rebranded 290/290x for the 380/380x cards. It's hard to see the 980 dropping a lot, at least initially, if the rumors of the R9 390 launching at $700 are true. Even though the 390 should outperform the 980 pretty soundly, that $150 buffer between them would still be a lot.

970 is freaking cheap as shit. It won't drop. 980 could use a drop to 499.99 but amd has NOTHING that competes against it. A cut down Titan X can slide right into the 699.99 price slot

That would depend on how threatened Nvidia feels about the 980's competition in the 300 series.

Thanks for the replies. All similar answers. I'll Mark as solved to end the thread.

I have a 960 SSC, I'm bringing it back and will get a 970. I just figured if I waited a few months I could save some cash. Guess it's unlikely.

Thanks again.

you might see a drop on 980's once the 300 series from AMD is released. the 290X will become the 380x with upgraded efficiency and overclockability, but I don't see it's price dropping below $350.

right now the Titan X is sitting in a spot the doesn't influence the price of anything else. the 290x and 980 are trading blows for the most part, and the 295x2 is already cheaper than the TitanX but more costly in every other regard.

They said they wouldn't do rebrands for this series. AMD's going for broke.

Intel 4790 K - R9 295X2 - Gigabyte Z97-SLI - Corsair Vengeance Pro Black 1866 CAL9 - Corsair HX 1000 -Samsung 850 EVO SSD - Samsung HDD - H100I - Corsair C70 - G400 Logitech - Asus VS247H - WASD custom mechanical and QCKPAD!

Staples of LTT: Getting an 4690 K will resurrect your lost family members, AMD = More heat thus AMD = Satan.

One leaks says they will, one says they won't. I have a hard time believing they'll just retire the 290/290x when it's not what they have done before with their flagships.
