[Rumor] YouTube ad-free subscription model may be in the works.

Prastupok

YouTube-logo-full_color.png

Some people may not like this. I personally love it. I do a lot of my entertainment on YouTube through various streams, shows, etc.

If it's only 8-15 a month, it may very well be worth it to a lot of us.

" A comment buried in Variety report reveals that the Google-owned video site is "exploring the prospect of launching its own subscription VOD service." The service would presumably offer ad-free streaming of certain video content that's part of the program. That could likely include videos from YouTube stars under the YouTube Originals banner.

If such a service were to hit the market, it's said that it would be similar to YouTube Music Key, which provides ad-free access to select music videos and free streaming from Google Play Music for an introductory price of $7.99 per month. The rumor comes from an unnamed executive at a company that partners with YouTube to produce video content."

Let me know, would you lovely people buy?

Edit: Please don't talk about AdBlock, and that crap. The people who make the videos lose out if you do that just as much as Google does.

Let's not talk about adblock. It's a piece of software that shouldn't exist.

If we select no for if we would pay the 2nd question needs a N/A field.

Put a "No" section on the 2nd half of the poll because I would not pay to watch, and being forced to pick a price option does not reflect this

When the ads go back to be unintrusive i'll agree with that. Being off to the side of the page is fine, in the video is not.

How do you think these people, like LinusTech, get paid for their work? Ad integration.

That's how he is able to afford his YTLambo. (Kidding)

I have adblock off on Youtube and most site's that I use often. Most of my Youtube subscription is let's plays. While I like the channels there isn't anyway in hell I would pay to watch someone play a game when I could buy it instead. I often use the let's plays to find out if a new game is good or not too. So certainly not going to pay for one of my workarounds since companies don't want to release demos. Lastly to be honest, Youtube has gone down hill with content ID stuff related to games for a while now, and I've only lost even more faith after Nintendo pulled their ass backwards lets play model. I'm only expecting things to get worse as other companies do the same. Hopefully the next Youtube isn't in the US with our broken copyright laws.

If it's about the same price as netflix or Hbo nordic i'd be fine with it. I refuse to use adblock on sites i like so this would work for me.

As long as it's just to remove the ads. Restricting access to content would be a dealbreaker.

I don't agree with it, unless the majority of the money goes to the content creator, then I'll be more accepting of it, but I'd rather that the youtubers were able to put their own specific adverts before the video instead, as I would be more willing to support them that way and see relevant adverts to what I'm viewing. No more cruise holiday adverts before a tech video.

It would probably be the same as the ads currently pay.

Ads are fine for me. I will not pay to watch youtube, ever. And if the ads start getting out of control (like tv is now and has been for the last 30+ years) I'll stop using youtube.

I'm annoyed. YouTubers putting in their own overlays and incorporating their own integrations are the only unobnoxious form of advertising you see on YouTube. A massive banner ad in the centre, or making you wait to see a video that may only be a minute or less long. If anything the adverts should be around the video page on YouTube itself.

Granted, the way some YouTubers have handled their own ad integrations has been so shady it's prompted legislative changes, for good reason. A lot of YouTubers make no attempt to make it known that their Monthly Favourites, for example, may include sponsored items (this is something I've seen happen).

Come to think of it, how is that porn sites do advertising and comments sections better than YouTube? o.0 How the hell did that become a thing?

That's also somewhat the companies. IIRC, some game company tried to pay reviewers to give a good score.

That's true, that has happened with Microsoft and imo that particular shitstorm wasn't nearly as massive as it ought to have been (which is weird, usually things are overblown), but it often tends to be the naïvete of the YouTubers, trying desperately to advertise to make money, but also entertain their subscribers and produce content and blurring the line between the two to the point of being actively misleading; albeit usually without actual malice.
