Best Thermal Paste?

Arctic silver 5 is one of the best. You've just put too much/too little on or you haven't re-mounted the cooler correctly. Also, it has a burn in period (up to 200 hours) before you will get 100% conductivity effectiveness... You know what I'm trying to say... I hope.

-Arctic MX-4 is a good pick, it performs better than AS5 and it is cheaper (at least it is here in the UK).

-Tuniq TX-3 comes up quite a bit with lower temps than AS5.

Honestly even if you are not using the best paste, proper amount and mounting is most important, if you do it poorly then it doesn't matter which paste you used.

... Have you given time for the paste to cure? You need to wait a while before the thermal paste has set and then Temps will go back down.

Right, that was dumb of me, the Arctic silver does have the burn in period, let it settle for 24h at least. It's annoying, that's why I didn't use it before

A lot of people like IC Diamond and Arctic Silver 5.

 

 

I personally use Xigmatek PTI-G4512 for both my cpu and gpu. Also my CPU is delidded.

LC diamond, Tuniq TX-4, Arctic MX-4 are all good thermal compounds.

 

 

Indigo extreme seems to be the best though.

Mayonnaise may be the best thermal compound but it will dry very fast so it is not recommended to use.

GELID Solutions GC-Extreme: Is the best performing (NON-CONDUCTIVE) paste, I personally have used this in my last 2 builds.

( The only down side is you really need to drop it in hot water for 15minutes before it spreads nicely. )

 

ARCTIC MX-4: Is a great alternative if this is your first time using paste because its really hard to mess up, I use this whenever i'm fixing clients computers and need to do a perfect application in a pinch. ( You only lose ~.5C of performance off the GC-Extreme, so who cares )

 

Coollaboratory Liquid Pro: Performs better then any other paste, but is CONDUCTIVE and hard to remove.  Be aware that Conductive paste can short out your mother board, so I don't recommend it under most circumstances.  

 

I would not suggest IC Diamond due to the reports of scratching, and the CEO's infamous response to said reports of scratching. 

Notice its not sold on Newegg or NCIX? It's also not on the above Tom's Hardware Benchmark.

The only thing that bothers me with a lot of the thermal compound testing, is that all major different sites report different results...

 

I usually use the thermal compound that comes with the HS, with the exception of cheap HS cooler that cost $25 to $30, like a coolermaster evo 212, where you are most likely get a cheap and poor performing thermal compound anyways, and on those I substituted it with artic silver, and personally noticed a temperature drop on both idle and load.

 

My last 2 personal builds, I used a Prolimatech Megahalem HS on a LGA1366 build, and its own thermal compound performed pretty good, and that was a $80 HS. And the most recent one on an Z97 build I used the Noctua NH-D15, and its thermal compound is pretty good too, which is a $100 HS.
