Another thing to keep in mind is the what the heck you're putting this on. While this thread would be useful say if I'm reapplying thermal paste to my brand new i7-4790k (which I don't actually have :(), when it comes to my old pentium E600 which I just decided to reuse for a HTPC it don't need something fancy so just about any paste will do.

God I wish I had the money to get a cheap pentium anniversary edition and a z97 OC board and try out my idea of using JB weld as thermal paste. Granted it's super ultra mega uber permanent, but I think it might work well for heat transfer since it basically becomes metal when it cure's.

HT-H1 but it doesn't really matter it barely affects temps. What cooler are you using? because the one that comes with the cooler is usually ok.

I recently redone my H100i with Arctic MX-4 and it knocked about 12'c of my temps.
So MX-4 gets my thumbs up  :)

Arctic silver 5 works great, but the thermal paste that comes with your cpu cooler should work just fine unless you plan on doing massive overclocking.

I've had my h100i about 13 months. about 3 months ago my fans seemed to be spinning faster. So I checked over everything and even reinstalled windows but now joy. last month I ordered some mx-4 and arcticlean and my idle dropped back down to 30-35 and my max when doing ooct, prime, etc are now under 65.

so like I said mx-4 gets my thumbs up :)

if new paste knocked 12 of your original temps (when the other stuff was fresh) then you did something wrong. Better paste shouldn't improve temps by that much.
