IS 1440P WORTH IT?

Go to solution Solved by Prikk,

I recently got my 1440p monitor and before that i was asking the same thing.

Honestly, i love the thing. Once u go 1440p you don't 1080p no more, Everything just looks great on it. I got the PB278Q btw.

I can also run most games with my OCed 970. Some game hit more than 3.5gb like Shadow of Mordor, but i see no stuttering at all on High with constant 60fps. I was surprised how well things ran on 1440p actually.

if you have the horsepower to run it, sure thing, but if you got a budget system that runs 1080p "ok" then no

IT'S PRETTY COOL IT SEEMS

Excuse me, my Caps Lock was stuck.

It's inbetween 4K and 1080p, so yeah.. If your rig can handle it, it would be pretty nice..

But the displays are not that cheap, because there aren't too many of them..

It should take up 55% less gpu power to run than 4k and 180% of 1080p, so if you run 60fps const right now and rarely 60+, then definitely not an optimal upgrade FOR YOU.

edit: those percentages are not accurate and just to give you an idea.

edit#2: I just saw you have a 270x, so yeah, stay on 1080p if you are playing crysis5 and gta ix, but dota and cs is still fine.

I use 970 Oced to 1500Mhz. I can run Evolve, Shadow of Mordor on High at solid 60. I turn on Vsync but i dont think it can reach 90fps constant on high, on medium probably. Only game its struggling is Dying Light, had to Medium that to maintain solid 60.

It's very expensive for what it is. I would do one of two things:

a) get a 4K monitor for the same price (or less), and just run any games you can't power at that resolution at 1080p (note, you will be able to play less demanding games like Mass Effect, League of Legends, Octodad at full resolution without issue on most high end single graphics cards, but don't expect Shadow of Mordor or Crysis to do well at 4k)

b) Wait for 5K to match the price of 1440p (which I reckon will take about a year) and do the same as in option a), except you will be running more demanding games at 1440p instead of 1080p.

It depends on your hardware and the price of the monitor. 4k displays aren't much more expensive than 1440p ones these days. Another option is surround 1080p, there are decent 1080p montors that are less than half the price of a 1440p one.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yes, It is higher than 1080p, But lower than 4k so it will be easier to run.

1080p = 2073600 pixels
1440p = 3686400 pixels
4k       =8294400 pixels

well, is it?

Given the price I don't think so. However if you are looking to upgrade beyond 1080p I would seriously suggest looking at 2560x1080p monitors. The 21:9 aspect ratio is so very fantastic. I have the lg25um64 and it can often be spotted on sale for around 200, I recommend it any day over 1440p.

This.  also note that 4k is exactly 4x the resolution of 1080p.  This is extremely beneficial because you can scale down to 1080p without any pixel interpolation, making it look as good as it would on a native 1080p screen.

well yea 1440p gaming with a 970 is no problem whatsoever and 4k is also easy with games like dota and cs.

seems like a good idea :)

(ROG Swift owner here)

Yes it is as long as you have the horsepower to pump out 1440P at an acceptable frame rate.
