YouTube comments were effed up by G+ a while back, so a lot of YouTubers disable comments for a while. TB just didn't bother.

Because YouTube comments suck.

Thats why he removed them

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

He got sick of having to deal with the comments section (this was before the latest comments section changes) and said he'd disable them from then on out.

He has at least 1 video on it, dunno why you wouldn't check his channel.

He has a Reddit post about it somewhere, or a video, one of the two.

This video circa 2013 explains most of his issues centering around the mandatory Google+ integration. EDIT: Ninja'd by @Ren

It essentially boils down to this:

Basically this.

Youtube comment section is usually a cesspit. While some would argue, I think reddit is just better for discussions anyway, and while those who want to be mean will find a way, at least it keeps the avg lazy trolls who would just post under the video.

Although Reddit is different in that any comment that is completely out of line or is not contributing to positive discussion can be downvoted, and thus its a cleaner place and an easier way for content creators (Like TB) to honestly hear what their fans think in an appropriate (and mature) manner.

Except that's a bad idea for a lot of reasons as well.

Good ideas can be drowned in a sea of red because they are not with a majority. They're opinion can be stifled because others don't agree with them. Reddit is no better than youtube. I prefer youtube, where there is no dislike, because you can gauge how many people like it over-all, without having results marred.

Because Google f'ed up the comments and then because people would respond to/upvote the haters the most, they would appear in the "top comments", so he would mostly only see all the hostility in the comments. Instead of letting it go, he went berserk about it. He doesn't do well with "criticisms" unfortunately and tend to over react. And by criticisms I mostly mean unhelpful comments like insults or how bad he is without providing a reason why and how he should change.

I'm fine with him blocking comments. If you have some constructive comment to give him, you can try twitter (with tweet longer) or reddit.

Maybe easier to moderate, slightly more effort required to post a comment, and good comments rise while trolls fall to the bottom. Even though Reddit is still 'internet' mainstream it can be said that YT is a lot more mainstream with almost everyone having an account. Reddit's commenting system and the way that comment threading works is just generally better overall.

I still disagree. Reddit is no harder to post on. You just have an account and type in the box. There's really nothing special about reddit, except the mental status of it's users...

Probably because youtube comments are, generally speaking, the worst thing on the internet ever. Worse than child porn, drugs, and to quote codemonkeys, "nuclear mad scientists, with aids, raping babies".

Even worse than Comcast.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

One comment on Reddit becomes segmented by replies, allowing everyone to ignore the arguments pretty easily. On YouTube one comment becomes like a forum post here on LTT, where every reply is 'forced' visible by all and you have to skim through arguments to find decent posts. So if I see an argument on Reddit that I don't wish to view, I can close the comment's thread. Also, on Reddit you can approve mods to cover the bases on people who are trolling/flaming, while on YouTube only your account can do this. It allows a lot more control. I'd still stand by the fact that Reddit is still obscure (even while very accessible), because if you look at the demographics for Reddit users most of them have heavy internet usage anyways.

What TotalBiscuit doesn't want is people coming to his video to tell him why his opinions are shit because they feel offended that he might not have liked their favorite game. He also doesn't want people seeing + responding to that garbage. I think moving comments to Reddit is a darn good choice for him.

Except people can still say the same things they would on youtube on reddit. He's just moving idiots to reddit instead of youtube

Yep. Now that they're all in one place it makes them easier to bomb.

deal is you CAN downvote youtube comments, and they CAN be deleted by the uploader.

its just apparently 12 y/olds think the proper way to go about it is to rather argue about it untill everyone thinks like them.

and by 12 year olds i mean everyone on youtube except those nice small tight knit communities like amnaeon and the occasional well matured channel like jacksepticeye.

even the LTT comments.
