Users have spent $1.3 billion in Candy Crush Saga in 2014!

Is the Candy Crush Saga epidemic over? One would think that those joining little candies into chains would have moved on to bigger and better games by now—one can only suffer so much agonizing defeat in the game's many, many puzzles before washing one's hands of the whole thing.

And while it's certainly true that publisher King's reliance on its candy cash cow has been steadily decreasing, that hasn't stopped the game's players from coughing up a not-so-insignificant amount of money for in-app purchases—which help them skip through levels, blow up candies faster, and push past the game's challenging scenarios.

According to The Guardian, Candy Crush Saga players spent approximately $1.33 billion on in-app purchases over the entirety of 2014. Just let that sink in for a minute: $1.33 billion on little additions to a mobile game. While King hasn't supplied a figure for the game's lifetime spending, The Guardian estimates that players have likely spent more than $3 billion on purchases at this point. In the last 18 months, the game's players have spent about $2.37 billion.

Those figures are huge, if not eye-opening, but a closer look at King's financials reveals a steady decline in the game's spending. During the third quarter of 2013, Candy Crush Saga players spent a whopping $551 million on the game. Since then, that figure has been dropping steadily to just around $263.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2014. Candy Crush Saga is still huge, spending-wise, but it's no longer the giant it once was.

As The Guardian notes, the game was basically King's biggest moneymaker in 2013, accounting for 78 percent of the company's gross bookings in the fourth fiscal quarter of the year. One year later, however, that figure was down to 45 percent—and it was the very first time that the game hadn't been the majority spender among King's titles.

Spending on these other games has risen 136.5 percent between the first quarter of 2013 and 2014; Candy Crush Saga spending, as noted, dropped 46.5 percent in that one-year span.

To King's credit, the company does have other big-spending apps in the mix that should (ideally) keep the company going as Candy Crush Saga continues its slow winding down. In the fourth quarter of 2014, King had three of the 10 highest-grossing games in the U.S. App Store (for iOS), and four of the highest-grossing games on the U.S. Google Play store.

The game is purposely designed to make you spend money. Don't play these stupid games where it requires you to use real money to buy fake stuffs. And some reviews saying it's worth it are idiots.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.1 Corinthians 13:4

Well at least apple are sort of trying to combat it. Making games "pay once and play" in their app store. The only games I play are from humble mobile bundles which are great, supports the developer more directly and helps charity too.

I hate king, their games are just cash grabs

So King gets a lot of money by making a carbon copy of Bejewelled, and adding in candy and kawaii GUI...
