Title is there, but the reasoning is not.

To my knowledge (which is not vast of great), AMD/Radeon seems to perform the same maybe slightly less, utilizes more of its smaller power, and seems to cost hundreds less.  Why the big craze on Intel proccessors?

I did a match of an i7 vs FX 9590. a Geforce 2.0 superclock 980 GTX vs 290x, and it seems like I get far greater for less money that with intel.  Am I missing something?

Build total for what I thought was relatively close power was AMD - $1654 vs the Intel - $2060

Any advice or explanation would be great before I decided to spend my money on a new build

A 9590 needs a lot of cooling since its literally an over clocked 8320

As for GPUs amd all DA way

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Because right now, if you want the best of the best, those are what you go with. AMD cannot compete on a performance scale with intel. If you're on a budget, then AMD starts to look good. In fact I think a couple years ago, they pretty much bowed out and claimed to stop trying to compete with Intel.

Until AMD releases their 3xx line of cards, nvidia has the upperhand with the 900 series. Plus AMD cards are not power efficient by any means and IMO nvidia has better drivers.

If you have a big budget (>1000$) go for Intel. Intel just have better higher end CPUs and that's a fact.
For the GPUs Nvidia and AMD  do equally good job if you ask me. There is no reason to buy an AMD CPU if you just want an AMD GPU :P

If i were you, i would get an Intel CPU and an AMD GPU. (but again, Nvidia is pretty good too)

Well, Intel CPU's in the higher end (150 dollars+) are most of the time just better for gaming.

They also grant a larger upgrade path.

You can go for Nvidia because their cards (most of the time, this is very generalized) produce less heat and use less energy.

They also use less energy when idle or gaming.

You can also take Nvidia over AMD because of features like Shadowplay or PhysX.

It wastly depends on CPU or GPU. When it comes to CPU intel is winning by far with high end models, which are faster and less power hungry and also produce less heat. When it comes to

cheap CPUs then the battle really begins.

When it comes to GPUs then its completely something else, you have to find your budget, read what AMD gives and NVIDIA along with the graphic cards, softwarewise i mean.

AMD : Mantle, freesync, AMD Gaming Evolved....

NVIDIA: PsyX, Shadowplay, Gsync....

After that it is all about your budget and the best deal you can find :)

I myself have 2x r9 290x because i found CRAZY deal 1 year ago i could have both cards for 550$ which was a price of 780 ti back then :)

And also bear in mind that AMD cards are a bit more powerhungry and heat productive so look for reviews and find one with a good cooler.

ONE MORE THING: AMD GPUS are MUCH MUCH faster when it comes to mathematical Computing power f.e. Mining. Gpus wise then AMD is much better choice

but there are already special GPUS and PCs that are specialy designed for mining so it is not a big plus.

AMD is a good low-cost option when it comes to CPUs. They are quite power hungry and have much lower performance per core than Intel chips though. GPUs is a different story, AMD can usually offer the same performance as Nvidia for less money, with the only real drawback being that they tend to consume more power.

Like others have said there is pretty much no competition on the cpu side from AMD at the moment but their GPUs are just as viable as nvidea's. They trade blows back and forth with new generations.

yes you miss something. from those 2 examples you gave you miss that the fx 9590 compete only with an i5 in terms of performance, while needing a very expensive mobo and cooler

and you also miss the GTX 970,which performs better than r9 290X hence the price drop from 550$ to ~330$ for the r9

Lots and lots of great info, and I know this "battle" has been asked more than  billion times. But I really appreciate all of your input and patience with the not so tech people.

I may just try the duo of Intel CPU and radeon. would be the first time, but im glad im not limited to one partnership.

There is absolutely nothing that stops you from using AMD graphics cards with an intel CPU. In fact, right now it's  GREAT combination.

The FX 9590 is a terrible choice for anyone since it's nothing but an overclocked 8320. The i7 is superior in every way. it is also more expensive to buy but at least it gives you a stock cooler that can actually cool it.

The other thing you're missing is that the 980 is absolutely and utterly overpriced. You can easily fit 2 R9 290Xs in the price for a 980, and the R9s completely destroy it.

The best combination would be i5 4690k + 2x R9 290x. Or an R9 295x2 if you want the dual gpu card with liquid cooling swag.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
