Building a gaming rig, I wanna cut on price and I heard from many that amd cpus are great and cheap. The most I'd pay for a cpu is $270, nothing more and I'm in US. Finding the fx-8350 seems like a great cpu that can hold its own against any high intensity game, like bf4 or project cars.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MLDzjX  I've reworked the a bunch of times, but I have already bought the case

Dont buy the 8350 for gaming.

Its a very outdated cpu and any modern i3 or i5 destroys it.

Out performed by the i5 4440+.

How much are you willing to spend on the motherboard?

Yet you are using an 8350.

I got it 2 years ago. I believed the same shit and thought a 8 core and 4ghz could outperform a 4690k...

I gave up my LTT's biggest AMD fanboy . Now its LTT's biggest Radeon Fanboy.

And I am getting a 5820k

i5-4440 + h81 for budget gaming (or i5-4460 + h97 if you want more options on your motherboard)

i5-4690k + z97 + 212 Evo for great gaming

Xeon E3-1231 V3 + h97 for budget Gaming/Workstation do-it-all rig

i7-4790k + z97 + 212 Evo (or other) for more expensive Gaming/Workstation

X99 for serious workstation machines, with gaming ability as well

At no point would an AMD CPU ever enter the picture. The only AMD CPU I would take over an Intel CPU would be the X4 860k over the G3258, but since I don't recommend purchasing a sub-$500 tower in the first place, that doesn't really ever come up.

I would go for an 8350 personally, because i want the 8 cores(my other choices from intel wold be the 6 core ultimate edition(IK that there is a 8 core but its $1000 alone) because its only $100 more then the 4690k, but ddr4 is really expensive.)

You can pick your own cooler and this is upgradedable and i changed your Ram, and added a hard drive

i5 destroys fx's in basicly everything (unless you're doing rendering on a high budget). Btw don't be on the strix 970 bandwagon, get a 290x

I don't have any preferences on graphics cards, it was between the 290x lighting and at the time a cheaper 970 strix, now they are both the same price

Is there any amd cpu that can stack up to the competition?

Well you might be able to find an i7 4790K for <$270 pcpartpicker's cheapest 4790K is like $280.

Since you're gaming either a single 970 or two R9 290s (which for gaming slots between a 980 and two 970s)

i5 bro. The AMD chip is pretty good, but if you have $270, get an i5

This.

the and card isn't bad, if you need that multitasking capacity, and just can't afford a 240$ xeon 1231v3 then get it, by all means. People gotta stop bashing, the 8350 will still run 60fps just about any game out there, and nothing beats it for a cheap render farm since you can get em for like 140$ on the down-low. sure an 4690K can manage to just beat it in raw horsepower, but it costs about 60$ more, and I'd rather have 4 8350s turning out data than 3 4690Ks. But that's just my opinion, so don't hate on me plox.

290X Lightning is hands down the best 290X you can get

Strix isn't anything special compared to all the other 970s
