Office 2016 preview build leaked

ahhming

Recently, someone managed to leak the installer for the January refresh of the Office 16 Beta (16.0.3629.1006) online, and has already been downloaded by quite a few people eager to see what's new. There are small changes in the new version, along with new icons that align with those you see in the Technical Preview of Windows 10.

Took them 3 years to make it dark?

You can change the color of other versions to black if you really wanted to.

I have some great news! The point of Office 365, is that you get the latest Office as it comes out automatically (part of your subscription).

Now, if you went out to the store and bought Office 2013 instead of getting the subscription, then yea. You won't get the upgrade, as you bought the software specific version.

Office 2007 and 2010 were the best for looks. 2013 wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good. This... This is just... The fuck?

There's some big optimizations going on underneath, such as supporting documents longer than 10,000 pages without really getting a performance hit while not using too much memory, possibly upgrading Excel to use AMD's HSA or do hardware acceleration for either AMD or Intel iGPUs, etc..

That is the black/dark theme of Office 2016. You have white and light gray, which looks identical to Office 2013.

The big focus on Office 2016 is optimization and polishing. They also added the search option box, as one of the big features, which you type what you are trying to do, and it will show you the option to do it, which you can click directly on it. So, you can go: "make text bold", and as result, you'll have the Bold button showing. This is a bit of silly example, of course, but this is how it works. Great if you trying to do stuff and you don't know where things are, or how to do it.

True, but 2013 looks really nice in Touch mode. Try it. :) (yes everything will be big on your display, as it is designed for tablets running Windows, but it looks much better).

Also it FULLY support high-DPI. Office 2010 doesn't, it looks half assed, and Office 2007, better not talk about it.

Oh ok so you can change it? If yeah then it is fine, I guess. I just see no reason to buy office when there are awesome free alternatives like libreoffice and openoffice. A couple nice features are not really worth it imho.
