NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 Specs Confirmed

LoneMartin

Here's what NVIDIA's upcoming performance-segment GPU, the GeForce GTX 960, could look like under the hood. Key slides from its press-deck were leaked to the web, revealing its specs. To begin with, the card is based on NVIDIA's 28 nm GM206 silicon. It packs 1,024 CUDA cores based on the "Maxwell" architecture, 64 TMUs, and possibly 32 ROPs, despite its 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, which holds on to 2 GB of memory. The bus may seem narrow, but NVIDIA is using a lossless texture compression tech, that will effectively improve bandwidth utilization.

The core is clocked at 1127 MHz, with 1178 MHz GPU Boost, and the memory at 7.00 GHz (112 GB/s real bandwidth). Counting its texture compression mojo, NVIDIA is beginning to mention an "effective bandwidth" figure of 9.3 GHz. The card draws power from a single 6-pin PCIe power connector, the chip's TDP is rated at just 120W. Display outputs will include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2. In its slides, NVIDIA claims that the card will be an "overclocker's dream" in its segment, and will offer close to double the performance over the GTX 660. NVIDIA will launch the GTX 960 on the 22nd of January, 2015.

Please let drivers after release improve the performance just that little bit more. It's good, but needs a slight boost.

Are they comparing it to the 660 because its only slightly faster than a 760?

small bus even if they have their optimization algorithm

But they have an optimized algorithm so why does it matter? lol

The real question that need answered is price.

200$, this is already known

How so?

1. Tiny bus

2. Only 2GB (I see games at 1080p breaking 2GB all the time)

3. SLI 960 with a projected price of around $210-225 is worse than a 970 (SLI scaling taken into account) and more expensive than a single 970

Its funny how at 1440p I rarely break 2Gb. Tiny bus is irrelevant if the card handles it well, which it will. A bigger bus isnt always better. Didnt we go through this with the 290x 512bit bus doing basically fuck all extra? SLI 960 will definitely be faster than a 970

still it wont be that effective when compared to larger bus card from amd ..... which sells at the same price point

the 760 was beaten by the 280 since both were at the same price

gtx 750ti which came later by the older 270x both were selling at the same price

wat, please explain that more clearly because it made no sense

Do you run all other settings maxed out?

I doubt it:

- 2048 cores (SLI) vs 1664 (non-SLI). Taking SLI scaling into account the 970 will most likely win if not about equal

- 970 has 4GB which is great for ANY game that uses more than 2GB

But they have an optimized algorithm so why does it matter? lol

They literally just based the whole architecture off a multiple of 2 instead of 3. I would say it's just a simplified algorithm over most else. Plus the extra L2.

750ti competed with the 260x not the 270. AMD at a later date droppped into a lower price tier.

I run them fairly maxed out yes. Highest setting I can get but maintain 60 fps. We know the 960 will beat the 760 and we already know 2x 760 beats a 780 and a 780 is basically the exact same as a 970

Overclockers dream? The 970 and 980 can hit 1500MHz, and if the voltage could be upped enough on my 650ti so would it. I had it running at 58oC with a 240MHZ overclock.

I'd probably say that as well if I could disable boost, there is nothing quite like getting a cards maximum potential on your own.

god i hate Nvidia's marketing

make everything "appear" faster much faster by have the lowest MHz number 900 and not 0

and comparing it to a two gen old product
