Need a review for Alienware 18

HI there! So far I've only see Alienware 18 appear once in Linus Media Group with less than 2Mins video.

Linus, PLEASE do a FULL REVIEW regarding about Alienware 18 as you've done Aorus X7 / Pro, Razer pro and all that good stuff!

Love to hear from you guys if it's extremely Overkill for a Media work + Mobility (due to Wedding Businesses) + Extreme Gaming with HIGH FPS!

Can't wait for it!

wrong section bro

IMO the Alienware 18 is way overpriced and for the same price you can get a balling desktop with i7 4790k 16GB RAM SSD+HDD and SLi GTX980s

and it too huge and heavy to be carried around

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Quote whom you're replying to, and set option to follow your topics. Or Else we can't see your reply.

Yeah, don't go on a tech forum and ask if Alienware is good. They're bad.

I need mobility for my Wedding photography business, usually the work flow starts at 5AM till luncheon which is 12PM. At the same day I'm required to have Same Day Edit (SDE) done by 7PM for dinner. That's how Asia country works.

I have the Alienware 17 and find it very chunky, the 18 Inch one is even more so. The reason I bought one was coz I was planning on moving to a different country for my studies, so would end up travelling a lot. So I bought it to be more like a desktop replacement otherwise I would most definitely would have got a desktop or a lighter laptop. Why is this in the Audio Section?

And with logic in mind, Linus (and 90% of other reviewers) will only review stuffs that they already have, or are sent to them. I mean, you can't really expect a reviewer to shell out $2100 just to do a YT review video, can you?

The reason I posted this is for an Honest review for the product, and because I need a desktop replacement for my work. Hopefully AW would send the following specs to LTT for review.

Intel i-7 4940MX
Nvidia GTX 980M x 2
Samsung 850 pro 256GB x 2 (RAID 0)
16GB RAM

I believe LTT group is reputable to ask for one & probably should do MSI GT80 Titan review when it's released! Linus and the team is doing a really splendid job on creating a marketing and promoting platform for themselves & to their clients. It'll be a very doable thing to do. =)

SNIP

This MIGHT not help, but I did a review of my 2 year old (older model) Alienware M18x

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/170701-the-alienware-m18x-review/

Basically the new one is more powerful, better looking with a MUCH better display, but it might help you

I love mine, but its battery life is SHIT with the graphics cards enabled (though really good when they are off) its powerful as balls (or was when it was new) but its a heavy heavy laptop, I loath carrying it around

for my next laptop I am looking at the blade/aorus , or more likely the gigabyte p35x 15" slim with 980m

I think @ShadowCaptain owned an earlier generation of this laptop, or maybe it was the Alienware 17 - I can't remember. He might be able to give some insight.

This doesn't belong in the Tech News and Reviews subforum, btw.

EDIT: Damn too slow, he found the topic on his own. xD

Same like the reviews in my sig. None of them companies (Hifiman, Audio Technica, Aune, Lepai) gave their products to me. I did the reviews because I have them, not because I purposedly buy them out of my own wallet for the purpose of doing the reviews.

Thanks @ShadowCaptain! Your link is truly an insight! At this point I'm still waiting for AW to release Nvidia GTX 980m for this Model.

No problems, hope it helped a bit, sure its the old model but hopefully it shows what its like to live with and the pros/cons

yeah that is actually one of my main dislikes with alienware, they are often a little behind the curve as far as new specs goes

The 13" model really intrigues me with the dock though :D probably the best thing they have released in a while (though I wish it was thinner, if it was like blade thin it would be an instant buy for me

The reason Linus usually doesn't bother with alienware is that the general consensus amongst tech enthusiasts is that their products are overpriced and not worth your money. Also bare in mind that if you want mobility, gaming laptops are probably not your best bet as high powered components drain batteries faster than other laptops. Some of them get decent battery life anyway, but it could still be much better usually.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Exactly, but if he wanted a laptop, why not order a better one from a custom builder for the same price?
