I want to know the IO, price, VESA compatibility, and quality comparison with LG and Dell's offerings.

I don't think this is a repost. My post is about the product showcase in IFA 2014, while this post is about the official launch...

In that case it is a repost of a reposthttp://linustechtips.com/main/topic/224884-samsung-to-launch-27-169-curved-monitors-34-219-info/?fromsearch=1

But I'm still looking forward to some competition. Too bad It's va and not pls.

I want a 3840x1600 21:9 monitor so it fits UHD 21:9 movies perfectly

UHD Widescreen movies are 4096x2160 no? That would be 19:10.

EDIT:

Ultra high definition television 3840 × 2160 1.78:1 (16:9) 8,294,400

Ultra wide television (5k) 5120 × 2160 2.37:1 (21:9) 11,059,200

WHXGA (5k) 5120 × 3200 1.60:1 (16:10, 8:5) 16,384,000

DCI 4K (native resolution) 4096 × 2160 1.90:1 (19:10) 8,847,360

DCI 4K (CinemaScope cropped) 4096 × 1716 2.39:1 7,028,736

DCI 4K (flat cropped) 3996 × 2160 1.85:1 8,631,36

EDIT2: Upon further Googling, it clearly depends on the movie and the directer's preferred style as with current cinema.

Digital cinema 4K 4096 × 1714 2.39:1 7,020,544 is probably going to be Widescreen standard in the industry.

its like 1080p 21:9 is 1920 x 800, for the fact UHD is 3840x2160 and 21:9 movies are "cropped" down 16:9 so it becomes 3840x1600 or 1920x800 (assuming my math is right)

My understanding is that cinema uses (in widescreen) 2.39:1 which is 21:9. So 4096x1716 would be 2.39:1.

I'm not sure why we insist in giving up more and more vertical pixels... what is even the point? What can a 21:9 monitor do that a 16:9 one that contains its resolution can't?

not giving up pixels vertically, just adding to the sides. for example: 2560x1080 instead of 1980x1080 or 3440x1440 instead of 2560x1440

I see it more like 2560x1080 instead of 2560x1440 and 3440x1440 instead of 3840x2160. The prices are pretty much the same anyway, in fact the 21:9 ones tend to be more expensive.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

You are missing my point, movies for consumer will be 3840x2160 or smaller. it may be 4096x1716 for theaters but not for the home market.
