The question is too broad to be answered properly, it would need to be narrowed down to specific examples and backed up by facts such as benchmarks.

Example: A 3770k would make for a better drinks coaster than an 8350 as the 3770k has contacts instead of pins, giving it greater stability and preventing your drink from spilling.

We've had this discussion 8x10^55454587786445347867586475347867867 times.

It ends in a locked thread, because fanboys from either camp are being retarded.

So don't.

Please don't...

At this point, the i5-4670k is the best gaming CPU, and the other unlocked i5s are pretty close as well.

The FX-8350 is alright if you want a cheap encoding rig. It is a disaster in games like Starcraft II that are not capable of using many threads efficiently or at all.

The core i7 is the best CPU available for any kind of hardcore rendering.

I don't know why you would ever want a core i3. They really should make an unlocked model.

The FX-6300 is the best budget CPU.

The APU is good for really cheap rigs.

and that about sums it up.

Amd are really bad at managing the heat output from their CPUs. I bought an aftermarket cooler but it's still hotter than an oven in hell. I'm buying intel next.

AMD guy here, for my system i was going to get a i7 rather than a p2x4 965be but coz of my budget i had to go for the AMD which had a lower price with it's equivalent i7(of that time) and offered only 15% less performace overall, the money i saved went to better memory and an aftermarket cpu cooler and I still have it running after 3 years @4ghz so i can't complain much both company are good in different areas and i respect both sides but tbh intel needs to work on their pricing a bit sometimes the obligate people to buy from the RED team xD.

AMD is better for a budget build since they offer better price per performance while Intel offers high end cpus with a large price tag. however Intel should make hex or octa core CPUs without an intergrated GPU! really ethusists would love to see more cores and less intergrated graphics which are often useless anyways if your buying a dedicated gpu... I like AMD becuase of the price per performance they offer but i know that intel has better performance.

not one of these threads. but if you ask me i would recommend amd for the regular gamer joe or the low end amd for non gamer john. as this cpu is more than adequate .. in fact it is enough for any gamer unless you want very high fps in starcraft ii. another reason why i recommend amd is, they need the money more than any other company and trust me you won't amd to go away. if one plans to use their pc to make food  then the intel i7s for it.

I love amd because they have an awesome vibe.

Amd is like the bro, who's really not going anywhere in life but is just an awesome guy.

Intel is like the really athletic rich kid.

Amd just slaps as many cores as they can into a CPU and up the ghz like crazy.

And I love how their taking that approach, even though it may not be the best.

My Rig: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.5 Ghz, Corsair H100i, Gigabyte gtx 770 4gb, 8 gb Patriot Viper 2133 mhz, Corsair C70 (Black), EVGA Supernova 750g Modular PSU, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, Asus next gen wifi card.

The only thing I have against Intel this moment are the damn sockets.  Just one after another and another and another... Since having an x4 955 AM3 I've seen 1366 -> 1156 -> 1155 -> 2011 -> and now 1150?  I know there's probably some good reason for this but it just doesn't sit well with me.  It just... confuses me sometimes.

Otherwise... personally as a gamer who uses his PC as a gaming rig?  They're equal to me.
