Instagram Purges Spam/Fake Accounts From Their Site, Costing Celebrities Millions of Followers..

Boom! InstaLoss , The Move from instagram widely known as "Instagram Rapture" made the move to Clean-up of fake accounts, This obviously caused some stir-up & causes follower counts to drop overnight , since most of the "followers " for the given account was actually either spam bots or Fake accounts created by user or "other users" . .
 

 

Ironically, it was Instagram itself that lost the most followers in the "Rapture." The photo service, owned by Facebook, has lost almost a third of its followers, dropping 18 million users in a single day

 

 

Since Instagram's efforts are sitewide, even ordinary people's follower counts are affected..No account has lost more users than Instagram’s own main account. More than 29 % of Instagram’s followers that is 18.9 million users were purged,

 

purges will be more continuous as fake or spam accounts are deleted said Gabe Madway an Instagram spokesman, the company is deleting all the accounts it had previously designated as “spammy” from the follower counts of its users. And for some high-profile accounts, a lot of users have been vaporized.

Instagram said last week that it had 300 million monthly active users, excluding the spam accounts that were just zapped.

As you saw above celebrities took the biggest hit , millions of followers vanished over a day. The singer Justin Bieber lost 3.5 million fans, or 15% of his total (baby baby oooohh), . Kim Kardashian lost 1.3 million followers now that's an ass load of people (ba dum tiss) Also Akon Lost over Half of his follower :/

 

Both Twitter and Facebook have told investors that less than 5% of their accounts are fake or spam.

 

 

Pretty bold move from the site, necessary action i guess , Wonder how much followers Linus lost in his main account , What are your thoughts on this? Please leave a comment or a rant or even a troll post down below..

I think its a brilliant move, nobody wants fake people on the site, or an overinflated view of followers

For the same reason you'd want regular followers: social validation. It is one of the cases in which even the fake ones can boost your self esteem if you're that fucking pathetic and sad to care.

Most of the accounts were spam/advertising. They are going to go and follow the big Instagram celebrities because they can spam comments on their pictures the second someone famous posts a picture.

 

If these spam accounts didn't work then there wouldn't be any, but obviously people are falling for scams and whatnot from these fake accounts.

This is pretty cool. One thing I see that is kind of sad is iamdiddy (i assume this is puff daddy) has a fake follower ratio 4 times worse than Kim Kardashian! How is that even possible?
