As the title says How did you people of the forum get into tech?

I got into tech because i wanted to build a gaming computer then i realized i didn't know anything about computers.

When I was 10/11 my uncle gave me a Ham Radio. I learned about electronics through that, and that morphed very quickly into computers, when I got my parents old Pentium 386 system (when they upgraded to a 450MHz P3 system). I was soon rocking my own Dual Slot-1 P2 system, sending digital communications across the world, bouncing off the ionosphere.

And the rest is history, filled with a couple hundred computer builds, working at a computer shop, school for IT, etc etc.

Look at me, all cute and young and stuff (note the corpse of a Macintosh being used as a chair....):

Ultimately I got into tech by experiencing problems with the tech I had(PII based computer and Sandisk Sansa), so me being a try hard I wanted to figure out how to fix or improve upon it. This has lead me on an endless adventure to "learn all the things".

My grandpa was a watch maker and as a hobby also fixed all types of household appliances. Radio's, alarm clocks, lamps etc.

One day he gave me a bunch of components and old radio's etc. that I could take apart. Been in love with tinkering with things and tech ever since.

Because of Fallout: New Vegas, you run so fucking slowly in that game by default it is unacceptable.

After weeks (ok months) of feverishly losing myself in Fallout 3, it was NV launch day, me and my friend are going to the store on our lunch break, both of us have ordered the collectors edition and are excited, I had ordered the Xbox 360 version, and he had ordered the PC version.

In the car afterward while we were digging in our long game boxes for poker chips and steelboxes and shit, the subject of the slow running came up and he revealed to me the wonderment of modification that can happen with fallout games, and that he had spent his many hours in Fallout 3 with a more sprightly step, while I had wallowed in sludgy misery all the while...

I thought I could endure knowing this information and continue playing it on Xbox, I couldn't and ended up buying it on Steam, but alas my PC had an E5200 (a pair of Pentium 4s, and an idiot's choice over AMD's offering at the time) and an ATi 4850 which struggled to play the game. Balls.

I, with the help of my friend initially, did some research and created a shopping list, bought the parts, built a Sandy Bridge system with a GTX 285 inside and the resulting orgasmatron megadeluxe PC masterrace masturbatathon while running at whatever speed I fucking well pleased at the behest of a couple of simple console commands ensured that I was from then on hooked.

I found Linus among other tech reviewers, I began caring about hardware, I bought all my games that had PC version again on PC and started to bask in their new found magnificence. PC gaming is now an integral part of my life and I am very keen on technology as a whole, building my rig sparked a fire that can never die and my interest and knowledge has ballooned ever since.

TLDR I owe my nerd card to some guy at bethesda who thought it was okay to make you run super slow in Fallout, which it bloody well isn't.

I've alway loved tech due to my father loving it too, although he's an Apple fanboy and hasn't owned a Windows machine in about a decade I think. For a few years, Ive wanted to build a PC, but only this June when I was bored revising, I started to learn about it.

I got into tech when I found Linus' YouTube channel at the age of ~16.  I started watching his videos and then I decided to build my own PC using one of his build guides with the parts that I had chosen.

I've loved technology and PC building ever since.

Played console for 8 years, needed something more hardcore as gaming was always an escape for me. I constantly wanted more and I started opening my computer to fix issues and slowly got more dragged in and now it's my life goal to build gaming computers for people.

Everything about computers interests me.

Video games. On Black Fri 2007, I got a PS3 and a DS lite (phantom hourglass edition), eventually I learned a few things about consoles and then moved up to PCs. Now I can build them, and talk about hardware, now I just need to learn how to OC and do a custom WC loop

Don't have it anymore, used it mostly for gameboy emulation, I remember I got it to 1.5GB Ram, 3 x 60 GB drives, and something like a 3.something GHz cpu,

I was always the go-to when it came to computers, even though I wasn't much of a techie. Then when I wanted to switch to PC gaming, I didn't like the idea of buying a prebuilt, so I talked to my techie friend about it, he directed me to LTT to learn a thing or two (he helped me too) while I planned and saved for the rig I currently have. I learned so much in that space of tine, and now I love anything tech

When I was like 3 or 4 I played point and click games on my parents computer. Parents bought me a gameboy when I was 5 and I would play games like Roller Coaster Tycoon on the PC. I was always the one people would come to when asking this and that about computers at home or at school. I spent WAY more time than anyone in our family on the PC. Portal was the first Steam game I had, and actually ran on our Geforce 7300 LE. After that TF2 was on free weekend and I convinced my parents to buy it for me, and after  that I just looked up random stuff about building a computer and graphics cards because our computer was garbage.

I got tired of having a really bad computer and decided to build my own.... I had no idea and had to raise the fund etc so I started doing some research and at first, a display of how much I knew, strayed away from LTT because (I had heard of Linux but never took it into consideration) I thought that Linus Tech Tips was Linux Tech Tips, no I can read fine I just knew shit all. So 2 1/2 years later I'm the official tech support of my family and friends (Greeks tend to have large families) and I built my first PC. But I have been into gaming for quite a while. I had an old PS1 (still have it and it still works) and a fishing game but no memory card so I eventually ended up completed that fishing game (took me like 9 hours straight) and then I turned it off because I had to go to bed (I was 6) and woke up in the morning to do it all again... I thought that's just how it worked...
