Intels New "RealSense" Coming

JoshK

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKOK-DzrQQ8

This is a recently released commercial put on by Intel. It shows demonstrations of their new RealSense technology that may change the way we use our computers forever. The commercial shows Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory interacting with a laptop by only waving his hands. It shows him waving his hands to control a fighter ship type thing in a game.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/realsense-overview.html

On Intels website, they go into more depth of the technology including amazing picture refocusing, 3d photography, and being able to measure something with just a photo.

According to Intel, this tech is coming soon so we should be expecting expecting this around mid-2015. Very very exciting, Luke would be all over this.

Well thats a bit harsh...... It was just a joke.

And I don't deny that, but the first gen of such a feature is nearly always a gimmick, and it really depends on its success if they'll use it in later itterations

That RealSense crap reminds me a lot of the Leap Motion actually.

Didn't like motion control with the Power Glove.

Didn't like motion control with the Wii

Didn't want the Kinect side of motion control for the 360

Don't like the motion control of my T.V. Remote.

I think i'll not care about this one either.

Same with 3D.

This isn't revolutionary...

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Could not have said it better myself.

This is really for competing with ARM in phones and tablets.

Not necessarily useful, but easy to advertise features are what every smartphone maker must have for each new flagship release, since 'party trick' features for showing off is why so many people buy new ones each year.

You mean the first couple of versions weren't 100% perfect? Might as well stop trying then.

Nope. What I mean is I have no desire to use motion control. Has nothing to do with perfection or imperfection.

Same goes for 3D. I have no desire to see movies, watch TV, or play videogames in 3D.

You will have no choice once it's perfected without the need for glasses. I bet you have no desire for anything above 480p and tube tv's too. It may not be high on your priority list, but I'm sure it's still there somewhere if the option was logical.

If you believe that, i'm genuinely sorry for you. There is a large amount of the population that can not handle 3D video. I am among that group. Alienating said group would be a poor business model.

Nice Straw Man. Believe what you like. I own 2x 1080p monitors at home, three ultra wide 1440p at work (upgrade recently from a standard 2x 1440p), and once the graphics hardware catches up, i'll have a 4k monitor.

Motion control is not on my priority list. the only reason I own a Wii and the T.V. that I do is because both were gifts, for my wife, from a family member. I would not own them otherwise.

This can be not bad or gimmicky if it's properly executed, just imagine every webcam on notebooks, and even dedicated desktop webcams to work as both a 'kinect' and a LeapMotion device, with a great API and some impressive integration, we can get a lot closer to VR even if we are not wearing a Rift or something similar. On games it can be awesome; for instance automatically adjust POV depending on your monitor size, settings, res and the distance to your face.

We have something called freetrack for games.

Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...
