Msi throws the Z97/X99 Gaming 9 ACK boards into the mix

brownninja97

11a.jpg

Wow just look at the usb 3.0 19 pin slot, its sideways SIDEWAYS, my dream, finally come true, i can die in peace.

Fancy features

  • The metal "thing"
  • Killer doubleshot pro networking, they say its the best, i prefer intel
  • 12 power phases because, yes
  • wireless
  • 8 sata 3 ports
  • sideways usb 3.0 port: best feature ever, the 19 pin cable is annoying to route.
  • M.2 support
  • oc genie and all the other msi goodness
  • sound blaster 2
  • red and black so "pc is faster"

11b.jpg

Fancy features of the X99 version

  • wireless
  • killer doubleshot kill death pro XX360XX extremekillman2000 vtec kicked in networking
  • streaming engine, it helps with streaming so you dont loose performance
  • Red and black so your pc is faster naturally
  • ddr4
  • audio boost 2-sound blaster
  • audio capacitors- they are good for sound, that is all
  • gold audio connectors- bragging rights
  • turbo m.2 because standard isnt good enough
  • steamos and oculus support built in, i think it works with other boards so this is bs silly msi
  • Military class 4, survived a 50cal to the pci-e.
  • msi oc genie and all other msi goodness.

msi-x99s_gaming_9_ack-product_pictures-w

Anyways here is my opinion on this, its a great board, i like the features it has but the lack of intel nic is a major turn off, not sure if its better now but from experience i really dont like the killer interface. I dont really like black and red boards any more, after seeing the krait edition and the old sniper boards it seems like there should be more variation on the market. But the bottom line is that if I was to buy a x99 board and a nice one at that then id get a X99 UD7, but thats just me.(dont get influenced by me, i want you to do your own research and then get a opinion of your own) What are your opinions?

I wish my Gigabyte board would have had a damn USB 3 connector like that.

I wish mine would allow me to install an Intel LAN driver instead of whatever it came with. I have no reason to think it would be better, but it would make me feel like it was better.

It's the same even on my Z87 GD-65 Gaming and every MSI Gaming series board I've looked at since, It made it very hard to plug my NZXT Phantoms USB3 ports in but looks very clean in the end.

I assume the onboard streaming chip, does not support 1080p60fps, like Youtube is now supporting? If som then this product will already be obsolete, and pointless.

  • 1 month later...

Hate to rehash old post but the main difference for me is the audio. Best motherboard sound ever on the ACK. 192KHz/32-bit 120dB analog. Hook up some high quality active studio monitors or speakers to hear the difference. Even the headphone amp is top notch. I'm actually considering Broadwell now because of this motherboard. A good USB DAC costs at least $250 to $300 and would then most likely be 192KHz/24-bit. Only things I'm skeptical of is EMI audio shielding and USB issues because of known MSI USB bug. ASRock has had these USB bugs too, motherboard vendors usually try to fix them with UEFI or driver updates which sometimes work and sometimes don't.
