It's not going to happen. Splitscreen is disappearing from consoles too

Local multiplayer does in fact exist in some PC games, but is quite rare in Triple A games.

Castle Crashers is an excellent local party game to play. It supports the same 4-player co-op locally as the Console version. You need gamepads to play multiplayer though (I use Wireless XBOX 360 pads).

Of course, that's not "technically" split screen, but I imagine you meant local multiplayer in general.

Hmm yeah I guess. My mom won't make the switch because she'd need 20 monitors and computers xD

i can only see that work out with controllers, unless you have a gigantic desk where you can have 2 keyboards & mice... but still, i think controllers will be the only way to go then?  sharing a keyboard just doesn't feel like something that would work out

Aye, pretty much any fully fledged "hardcore" game that uses local PC multiplayer will use Controller Pads to do so. See my comment above about Castle Crashers. Obviously some simple games like Worms can be done via players sharing the keyboard, but using a Controller Pad is a must for anyone seriously considering local PC multiplayer. It's not even expensive to do.

I think, especially as high end PC's become more powerful, there might be a potential niche for Multi-monitor "split screen".

Example: Each player would need a Controller Gamepad (360 Pad or whatever), and each player would get a screen to themselves. But all of the screens would be driven by the same PC.

Obviously this is super impractical for high graphics games like Crysis 3, but it should be feasible for some games.

There's a split-screen mod for borderlands 2 that you can use 2 screens for. It works like a dream.

GRiD Autosport has a good split screen , if you have 2 monitors , Grid will let you have 1 player on each screen :)

I didn't know that! I'll have to get GRID setup on my gaming PC then.

I imagine that there is a fairly heavy performance hit for that though (since you're rendering double the pixels).

Are you using the 970 4GB in your sig for that? I'm still rocking a Gigabyte HD 7950 WF3 3GB card. Considering your 970 is more powerful then my 7950, I think I might struggle to keep 30 FPS.

The more machines (consoles, rigs) you need, the better to the makers.

The old times of split screen are over. Haven't seen it since PS2/GameCube generation of consoles and some pretty old PC games. Not sure about sports games though.
