AMD is going to re-launch the R9 290x with 8GB of memory

I  don't really know what to think about this, Many won't need it, YET, thing is, why don't they just give the next R9 300 series 8gb of VRAM instead of launching the 290 again, since many people will not need this amount of VRAM yet...

KitGuru Says: While it is nice to see that AMD actually wants to compete against the GeForce GTX 980 using something else than price-cuts or promotions, exclusive graphics cards with no obvious performance advantages are not exactly something that can capture a significant share of the market (due to limited availability). Therefore, while some gamers might prefer Radeon R9 290X 8GB to GeForce GTX 980 4GB, it is unlikely that the majority of gamers will make the same choice.

Yea because gamers only buy things they need...

They don't have anything else to put out right now and the new 900 series cards are flying off the fucking shelves. This makes sense as I plan to upgrade to a 4k monitor soon and will probably have to upgrade my card. I was planning on going Nvidia but idk I'll have to see what happens. I won't be building for a little bit anyway.

My guess is that they're facing delays in coming up with a product that will beat the GTX 980 either on performance or price at the moment. Releasing a product that has nothing going for it on launch day is worse than no launch at all.

They may be hoping that if they can put out an R9 290X with a lot of VRAM at a low enough price point, it will find a market niche.

Did sapphire not produce a limited 8GB version of the 290 cards anyway? or did i imagine this? haha.... I suppose its good for higher resolutions/Eyefinity (or those ultra textures with silly VRAM req )

Also whats with the people attacking AMD at every chance they get?

exactly

You are not going to play 4K or 3x 4K on 1 GPU but you might on 4 in QCF. Then you will love the 8Gb Ram

it happened before as well, for example 760 with 4GB ram instead 2 GB...

This is the ultimate crossfire card guys. It's a niche market, but it fulfills the need perfectly.

But it isn't.

You will not be able to utilize all 8GB VRAM. Not unless you're playing at triple 4K (maybe, not even) and at that point, you would want something more powerful than four R9 290Xes.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! They must be crazy insane...

They spent tons of money developing and manufacturing that super wide memory bus. Might as well take full(or rather better) advantage of it. That doesn't sound too crazy to me.
