"This is bigger than Ebola"

Calavera

if it's stupid clickbait, then don't click on it....

if you give them a view, they won already

the fact that it's titled "bigger than Ebola" already indicates it's medial bullsh--. There is no Ebola "epidemic". The media is overblowing it into a political issue because they have nothing better to do....

Don't worry, everyone. SnoopWall has you covered with a totally safe and secure flashlight app that apparently asks for access to your microphone at install.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snoopwall.flashlight&hl=en

I am not 100% sure, but I think camera and microphone uses the same permission. The LED counts as part of the camera, so any app that can use the LED (such as a flashlight app) will say it needs access to the camera and microphone.

2Spooky4Me. Time to lock myself in a lead cube again.

So, where does one purchase a human sized lead cube? I feel like a lead cube of that size could have many potential purposes besides hiding from spoopy phone apps.

My fllashlight is just a picture of a flashlight with a power button and tree levels of brightness, I don't think that'd be malware.

Just because the GUI is simple doesn't mean it isn't stealing your private info. It's not like malware makes it obvious that it's stealing your stuff.

No sure what people are laughing about. seems like a reasonable news interview. For the general user this sort of information generally isn't known.

Well they aren't lying and as they said it's cyber security awareness month and that's pretty much what they're doing, making people aware.

I didn't install those flashlight apps exactly for that reason unless the app had a logical reason why it needs to access that information I don't download it.

Sadly most people don't think so far and just download everything without thinking of the consequences.

But it's also Google's fault for allowing every piece of crap on the play store where it is obvious that it is spying software.

I looked up their site, and it's nothing but scaremongering in order to get you to use their apps instead, which I have no doubt either cost money, or collect data for 3rd parties anyway.
