childhood tech wishes you realize now is a bad idea

holy-sock

I used to really want a Zalman CNPS9700. Decided not to buy one when I actually built my rig.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

I wanted the xperia play so bad. Turns out, nah. Touch screen is better than carrying around a clunky ugly niche gaming pad.

I bought a delta fan because I wanted great cooling. Didn't know how loud 70dB was when I got the fan. Had to buy a voltage regulator the next day to fix my mistake.

Gateway still exists, they dropped the gaming laptops and desktops a long time ago though. My dad has an old Gateway FX laptop that is quite old. Thing is they fell apart after Acer (yes Acer) bought them. If you search for their website you'll find them. Ashame a low end company bought them.

I always thought a supercomputer was a slightly more expensive version of a regular computer. I know now that I can say with almost 100% certainty that I will never own one.

Android girlfriend. (with complete A.I.)

Not really a bad idea in my mind, just not possible, and won't be cheap.

Not to mention the obvious moral implications of "if she's programmed to only love me, what happens to her when I die?"

Wanted more huge CRT screens. Then LCD monitors became cheaper....

Also wanted a pager. But got a touchscreen cellphone when i was old enough. Funny thing is, now I have a pager too.....

Edit: This makes me feel really old.....

NZXT h-440 Love it soooo much, but such a pain for lan parties ( I do em about every 2 weeks) Way too heavy bulky and big. My childhood choice however: DS lite. Why did I want one?!

Corsair C70 case, AsRock Z77 Extreme4.

Stupid and stupider. For the same price of the mobo I could have gotten an equally good Z77 board from like ASUS, Gigabyte, or some other brand.

C70 is just ugly after a while. I actually bought it after seeing Linus' videos but meh it was cool when I was 16.

Xbox 360 + all the games and controllers I bought for it. Huge waste of time/money. The only game worth playing was Cod Black Ops 1 because damn my friends and I all played the hell out of that game and enjoyed every minute of it.

Another one I remember. Picking the parts for my first gaming PC when I was really young:

16 Mb Voodoo 3 3000

32 Mb Rage Fury Pro

ATi better because twice as much ram!

That's the only time I made that error.

Linus is my fetish.

I don't really have anything from when I was a child because most of the tech things that I wanted turned out being awesome. N64, Gameboy Colour, PS2 etc. But I did buy an extremely early version of a convertible laptop with pen input back when I was in high school. It was an Averatec C3500. The thing was dog slow and had horrible build quality. I replaced it with an awesome HP zd7000, which then had defective ram so I returned it and I built a gaming rig instead.
