i don't know the gigabyte windforce edition is pretty awesome too. It comes with higher OC out of the box and a stronger cooler.

Juries are still out how much more overclocking 970 can do with watercooling. Since the card doesn't generate that much heat compares to 780. It's possible there may not be as much headroom as the 7xx series.

You're thinking backwards. Generating less heat gives it more headroom. It's going to take a higher clock to get it to the temp of 780 and water-cooling will just make it more effective.

true but it is a little more expensive. The asus looks cooler to me though

From what I'm seeing the Gigabyte 970 is the way to go for overclocking (8+6 pin power plugs, custom PCB, 600w cooler)., but MSI/ASUS have the 0db fan feature.

I'm not hearing good things about EVGA's 970.

I would like stock benchmarks too....Im quite interested in those benchs since they seem to be quite a bit lower than other places.

All this talk of Maxwell's performance has gotten me extremely curious on how AMD responds with the R90 380X and 390X

Me too...but won't happen for a while.

How important is that ASUS backplate? Because that is basically the one thing preferring ASUS 970 over the MSI one

I've been reading the same. Kinda sad but EVGA seems to have screwed up with the 970.

This is the only place I've seen where the GTX 970 scores lower than the GTX 780.

Making me think twice about selling and switching over to the GTX 970.

EVGA have been screwing up for a while now. I've had 4 replacements for my GTX 780 and my current one, at just 4 months old, has started developing coil whine, just like the rest.

More importantly, why/how is the 970 so much lower than the 770???

I really think Linus was sent a defective sample - they should really ask Asus for another one - and Asus would want to comply, since they're the ones looking bad here :P

This result makes no sense to me either. I'll post a tessellation benchmark once my 970 comes in.

Woohoo the Strix 970 is avenged! :)

(I still think Linus should ask Asus for a new one though :) )

I have the 970 strix  since yesterday, for the people that are worried that due to it's 0rpm fan setting the card will ramp up it's temps till it gets to above 50°c and starts spinning the fans, you can rest assured.
The card stays about 30°c idle with fans off (and i'm on the first floor where it's a little hotter than downstairs.)
