Craigslist simply offers a service which is usually used for good things.

It's like blaming a store for selling a kitchen knife which was used to stab someone. Craigslist did nothing wrong.

That's because you've all been conditioned to fear anyone with a gun (also the gun laws), which is a bad thing in my opinion. I see someone in civ clothes with a gun in it's holster, I think "off duty cop, or ccw holder" and nothing more. because 99% of the time that's what it is. A person intent on robbing the place, isn't gonna stand in line with their gun in it's holster. NOW if they have it in their hand, then you call the cops because that's brandishing and is highly illegal, if their holding it in a manner that they can shoot it.

With that said, if you are both on the same playing field (i.e. both knives or both guns) then it doesn't matter whether you's have knifes or a guns. The result will be the same. You do not realize that there are people(although I'm not one of them) who are weaker in physical strength; to whom having a knife for self-defense isn't very useful if AT ALL.

In U.S. you have to go through BACKGROUND CHECKS to buy firearms from stores.  And firearms are NOT free.  If you wanted to rob someone for maybe a hundred dollars then you would NOT be able to AFFORD firearm.

Ahh, well in my state (Virginia) you have the right to carry a handgun in a holster, as long as it's visible, if you pull your shirt over it and conceal it, you have to have a license. Some places in the US don't even allow those. The first one is called open carry or constitutional carry.

You have the option to try and wake your family and make a break for it out a window, but that means potentially being caught and attacked. You could phone the police, but they take time to get there. By then they could have raped your wife or kid, and got away. Or they could be running off with your prized Gameboy that you had. You could grab something like a golf club or baseball bat if you have one, and physically confront the criminal(s). You could possibly over power them, but you're likely doomed to fail as you do not know how many there are, how strong they are or if they have a weapon themselves. Then there is the final option - you have a firearm, let's say a pistol. You can shout out a verbal command that you are armed and for them to leave before you open fire. Whilst doing this your partner could be calling the police. Or you can confront them, and the shear sight of the gun could deter them. If push comes to shove you can fire in self defense.

 

This is just one possible scenario of countless others. Tell me, how would you like that situation to play out?

Okay you can boil this down, would I rather go "gun vs gun" (because if I have one, then they do too) or "non-firearm vs non-firearm".

 

By a long shot I would rather that neither of us have guns. I can achieve the same amount except there is more room for error if we don't have guns. On the law of averages, I believe probability gives me a better chance without guns.
