Hello all,

I am going to upgrade my laptop soon (I am daily driving the Thinkpad t480 with 8th gen i5), and the Framework is the perfect one for me, I love tinkering and stuff. I am trying to decide though, with the cost of both in mind, to get the Ryzen 5 or 7. I have never had a Ryzen system, so I don't really know what they all mean, but it has the 7640U and the 7840U respectively. A decent chunk of my work is in the browser, but I also use Adobe programs and various audio programs like Ableton, which need more performance. I've heard that the 7840U has a better GPU than the 7640U? In addition I develop things, and while I don't use virtual machines often, sometimes I may want to run Kali off of Fedora, so would the 6/8 cores make a difference?

Thank you for the help, I don't know much about this kind of stuff in computers, I just build and program them haha.

I have a Framework 13 with the 7640U and so far, i never regretted getting it and not the R7 version. I have copious amounts of websites open and run Linux on it. In short: The 7640U is absolutely not a bad CPU, but the 7840U is a little faster in all respects. But its far more expensive and really only makes sense if you really need it. Even some light gaming hasn`t been a problem so far. In contrast, getting 32GB of RAM and a bigger SSD, for me was a far more worthwile use of that money than two more cores and a little more graphics power.

Ah yeah that makes sense. I too have many websites open all the time haha, my record is 532 tabs in Firefox. Good to hear that gaming is good, while I don't run intensive games, if a computer can run more intense games, then I've found it can do Solidworks, which is another use.

Thank you for the help!

How did you count this? And... how did you accomplish it...?

Haha yeah its a little strange. It was during a time when Fedora was acting up (back in the early 37 days), and so I didn't want to restart. I had a lot of tabs open for DnD, school, online shopping, and music. I counted it because a friend was over and said I had "like 700" so I counted to show I'm not that insane. I have a little counter on my white board with my most tabs (like the "time since last accident" signs in cartoons lol).
