Uh, I'm not sure if Linus has actually ever been on 4chan before, or if he's just listening to the echo chamber of "4CHAN IS A B-BAD PLACE G-GUISE!" stuff that other ignorant people spout.

1. Child porn is like, never posted on 4chan anymore. Maybe in like, 2005, you had faggots posting it trying to be edgy. However, it has ALWAYS been removed instantly, the poster is always perm banned and reported to the authorities, and normally the thread will be flooded with replies with people shitting on the poster anyway. I have never seen it myself on 4chan, for one, and I've been using the site for several years. I have seen beastiality porn on Facebook though, does that make Facebook an animal porn site then?
2. Linus makes the comment that they put a copyright restriction on celeb nudes but not non-celeb nudes from random people... that's because Lawrence herself filed the copyright claim. This restriction doesn't even apply to the other celebrity nudes, because they haven't filed anything on the images.
3. The "I don't want to associate myself with them" comment is just dumb. I've met some fantastic people on 4chan, some of my good friends use the site. I've even met up in real life with a couple of them. I've taken part in many giveaways from random users on 4chan for video games, which also led to making friends.. And just lurking the technology board taught me how to build my first PC. Again, just because there's the occasional dick head, doesn't mean the entire site is some cancerous shithole that people try to make out.

Just my two cents, but everything he said seemed so ignorant that I just had to comment.

I agree, he was definitley too harsh. 4chan isn't really that bad of a a place. The website exists for the most part so it's users can be assholes to each other and have a laugh. You shouldn't be surprised if you join an almost entirely fully anonymous messaging board and people aren't babying you

Guys, Linus is a tech nerd, it's like asking a zoologist about the inner workings of a Ferrari engine. You're not going to get a well informed answer from someone who isn't interested in the subject.

Even on the most 18+ board like /b/, mods swarm in on CP and delete it on the spot. This is one of the things that is actually well moderated.

 

This is a legal ass covering by Moot because neckbeards keep reposting this and stressing him and the mods out because they can't put their dicks down for 2 minutes. The do not post ru rus. Things will operate as usual. It's when someone comes in directly that Moot will have to respond like any business owner. (4chan is the largest English image board with tons of traffic) No one is actually anonymous because if someone is dumb enough to do something serious, IP addresses will be handed over.

 

This one annoys me the most. Everyone assumes all of 4chan in /b/ and COMPLETELY IGNORE all the other boards. Hell, there is an /mlp/ and /lgbt/ board on top of others that are nowhere near the levels of /b/. Right now /v/ is even doing something positive with the aid of /pol/.

To be fair then he shouldn't be making comments at all on something he knows nothing about, especially while he's trying to be informative at the same time. But yeah, I agree with everything you said. Everyone just disregards all the good that comes out of the site.

There is some horrible people on 4chan, but most of them are just ordinary people, if I were in charge of 4chan I would get rid of /b/.

Everyone on 4chan acknowledge /b/ is a shithole though. Normally if you act like a dick on any other board, you're told to go away to /b/ almost as an insult. I wouldn't even get rid of it because it acts as a containment board. It's the same reason /mlp/ exists, so that the manchildren can go there and stay there and not post their crap on all the other boards.

If you saw it on the front page, that means it was a latest post. As in, it must have been posted literally seconds before you saw it. Okay, obviously it's deleted instantly in respect to a mod or admin seeing it - obviously it's going to be up for a short while until a staff member sees it. 4chan even has a report system that you can report people for general rule breaking, or report people for illegal content, and the latter is flagged up higher priority for mods to get to and remove. The staff takes it very seriously either way.
