Put on some tunes, and fly around. thats what I will be doing in my ship.
I guess i could transport some stuff around while i do that to help out LTT conglomerate.
but i will probably just be doing this alot though....
except instead a ship it will be a spaceship.

Me too. I always like trading in games and transportation is a big part of trading. I guess what might be interesting to me is transportation and trading in a little more dangerous areas of space. So instead of a gigantic hauler I'd get a well armed ship with some cargo space like Constellation and use this. Maybe it's going to be less profitable but more adventure is always good ;)

snip

The idea of having a transport with a full bay and no real defence worries me, if there is a refuelling ship for our military ships I'm game to be that ship otherwisr I won't be transporting big cargo but I'll happily be your escort.

LTT Space Truckers! but yeah this is kind of my long term gameplan some salvage but a lot of trade, hopefully we can hire npc's to fly pre mapped routes so I can create my trade empire and do regular shipping routes between worlds.

That would be great but I don't think that's gonna happen. It's something that is possible in the X series but SC is supposed to be a more "hands-on" game.

We'll see how it all folds out.

You can hire npc's to do what you want. I mean who is gonna take care of your factories? I can see them being able to carry cargo around as well. Then again if they get attacked chances are they won't be as good at fighting off the attackers as regular players are.

It has been said you can hire npc's as gunners in ships or pilots when you want to be the gunner and so on the one thing I am not too sure of is the npc functioning when there is no player onboard.

Factories are a different beast as they simply sit there and run a thing that says every x minutes output 1 can of Slurm. albeit factoring in some other numbers and factors.

This is an idea I have in the back of my mind for simple trade or at least movement of supplies in friendly space. it is also quite feasible depending on cost to keep the big ships to player only but have a small fleet of say auroras doing short one jump or even in system runs. if you can find routes that have a high enough profit margin I am sure the loss of ships and cargo for these flights could be covered. and may even provide some jobs and so on in terms of protection and recovery.

I have been thinking about the "hauling" side of the game a bit, and done some work on it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgihfVnEaLDjdEhHSXBxdzZnTktVenNqWi1EQVJhdFE&usp=sharing see the freelancer and cutlass mass layout sheets, though the cutlass isn't done yet, it's complicated.

I've been focusing at the moment on the loading side of the hauling system, but, I agree runing high value loads is illadvised without an escourt.

I think the most important thing to understand over time is that transporting a large low value low over a short distance can offten make more money than a high value cargo over a long distance. as fuel. time and escout costs all affect profitability.

I'm interested in becoming a transporter of less than legal goods-drugs not humans. And then over time becoming a drug lord and running my empire from a 890 Jump. I figure it should have good pay outs and be more exiting than going through a jump point and being done.

Edit: I plan on having my Cutlass escort itself, with a gunner of course

And so GabeN has told us to march forthith unto the Land of Holy welding our swords of mice, shields of keyboards, and helmets of Oculus Rifts where we shall reclaim it-which is rightfully ours-from the PUNY Console Peasants from whom armed only with mere controllers we shall decimate in all forms of battle and we shall dominate even in their most ridiculous tradition and infatuation of CoD. Yes, my brothers- sisters and trans sexuals too- we shall destroy the inferior of races with our might and majesty. And if any Peasants wish to join us they must speak now or forever perish. -Ancient Speech from a Leader of Old, Book of Murratri section 2

It's the space sim series developed by Egosoft. These are single player quite complicated big games with a huge trading and production system.

I am also interested in the illegal hauling/smuggling type of trading.  Going to be hanging out in the rough systems allot, and salvaging wrecks which i may or may not have had something to do with.  And anything else really, i want to feel that rush like im getting away with something.

well two options for armored transport at the moment are the freelancer, and the catterpillar. the freelancer carries samller loads, but should be easier to go the distance with, and the catterpillar is just a freakin rock.

Some assembly may be required as i separate the polar bear into multiple containers to avoid detection.

There will be mining but not exactly like in eve. It'll be a more manual process where you actually have to fly around the asteroid and blast it with some drilling laser or something. Maybe even you;ll have to somehow collect the debris in your cargo. That's how I imagine it at the moment.

That's fine. I just meant that there will be industry and mining like in EVE, a player driven economy and what not.
